BIS #7061 Adult Literacy Programme Commences at DB Yerwada
By Ms Pearl Fernandes for BISMumbai
Don Bosco Edu-Complex launched the Adult Literacy Programme for Parents for the Academic Year 2023–24 on 14 September 2023.
The event began with a warm welcome from the Supervisor of the Secondary Section, Ms Manjusha Thorat, setting the tone for the event dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge. In his address, Fr Ajit Munis, the Principal, emphasised the transformative power of education in fostering intellectual growth and nurturing creativity.
The parents were introduced to the committed educators who had been set up for this training. The training period is designed for the academic year and aims to train the parents for six months, every week from Monday to Friday. The basics of English and computer use will be covered in adult literacy training. According to their literacy levels, the participants in the Adult Literacy Programme were thoughtfully divided into three groups: Beginners, Initial, and Advanced. This ensured that each participant would have a customised and productive learning experience.
Ms Thorat went on to give a thorough explanation of the registration process and emphasised the establishment of a special WhatsApp group by the teachers for the purpose of facilitating support and communication. Several parents also expressed their gratitude and were happy and eager to begin the classes. “We, the parents, are grateful to Don Bosco Management and the teachers for their selfless service to society. Teachers have many responsibilities, but they devote their time to us, helping us to live a dignified life,” said Mrs Tahseen Shaikh, a grateful parent. Ms Varsha Hiwale, the teacher in-charge of the event, said, “The adult literacy training for parents gives immense joy to me as we are able to empower parents and help them to find new meaning in their lives.”
Ms Simran Rodriques proposed the vote of thanks, thanking all attendees, the organisers, and the supporters for their commitment to the cause of adult literacy. This Adult Literacy Programme exemplifies the commitment to empowering individuals through education, ensuring that the light of knowledge continues to shine brightly in the community. Don Bosco Edu-Complex Yerwada remains steadfast in its mission to illuminate minds and transform lives.
