BIS #7474 Republic Day Celebration at Dominic Savio Kindergarten, Nerul
by Monika Dantas for BIS Mumbai
Dominic Savio Kindergarten, Nerul, celebrated Republic Day with a vibrant and engaging week-long series of events designed to instill patriotism and educate students about India’s rich heritage. The celebrations, conducted in the pre-primary section, culminated on 23rd January 2025 with a grand Prabhat Pheri that brought together students, parents, and teachers.
The week-long activities focused on introducing children to the national symbols of India, such as the national flag, anthem, bird, and song. Teachers creatively engaged the students by explaining the significance of each symbol and how they represent the identity and unity of the nation. These sessions were made interactive and fun, ensuring that even the youngest participants understood and appreciated the lessons.
The students enthusiastically learned patriotic songs and were guided on how to deliver speeches confidently. These activities not only helped in enhancing their public speaking skills but also instilled in them a sense of pride and honour as young citizens of India.
The highlight of the week was the ‘Prabhat Pheri’ (rally), which saw enthusiastic participation from students, parents, and teachers. The rally began at the school premises and concluded near the church. Led by the Dominic Savio Kindergarten students, the group sang patriotic songs throughout the march, spreading the spirit of unity, patriotism, and pride among the participants and spectators.
The event was graced by the presence of Rector Fr Barnabe D’Souza, Principal Mrs Kalyani Chaudhuri, Fr Shekar Mariadas, Fr Adolph Furtado, and Fr Allwyn Misquitta, who actively interacted with the students and parents. Their insightful questions about Republic Day kept the children engaged, encouraging them to reflect on the importance of this national celebration.
Parents expressed their appreciation for the meticulous planning and execution of the program. They commended the efforts of the teachers and the school for organizing events that fostered community spirit and pride.
The Republic Day celebrations successfully educated the students about the significance of the occasion while creating cherished memories for all participants. The spirit of unity and togetherness was evident throughout the event, leaving everyone with a sense of pride and belonging.
