by Fr Ashwin Macwan sdb for BIS Mumbai

As part of the Marian Month and to commemorate the solemnity of the Assumption, the 20th Marian Quiz Competition was held on Saturday, 10th August 2024, at the AmrutDhara-Don Bosco Animation Centre in Kapadvanj. This event brought together Catholic students from the Diocese and Salesian houses across Gujarat for a day of spiritual enrichment and intellectual challenge.

The program commenced with a well-animated prayer service, setting a reverent tone for the day's proceedings. Following the prayer, Fr Pratap Damor, the Rector, extended a warm welcome to all present, expressing his joy at the gathering of young minds united in their devotion to the Blessed Mother. The guests of honor were then invited to light the ceremonial lamp, a symbolic act representing God's presence among the assembly.

Fr. Ashwin Macwan, Director of AmrutDhara, delivered a moving message about Mother Mary, inspiring the participants and audience with reflections on her role as a guide and intercessor. His words resonated deeply, emphasizing the significance of Mary in the journey of faith.

The quiz itself was a rigorous test of biblical knowledge, featuring twelve rounds of challenging questions and puzzles primarily sourced from the Bible. Fr Macwan, who served as the Quiz Master, skillfully guided the event, ensuring that the competition was both engaging and educational. Each of the nine participating teams, composed of three members each, had been given the quiz material a month in advance, allowing them ample time to prepare.

The competition was fierce, with all teams demonstrating a commendable level of preparation and understanding. The teams were supported by their animators, who played a vital role in their success. After an intense series of rounds, Don Bosco, Dakor, emerged as the champions, claiming the first prize. Catholic Church, Umreath, secured the second position, while Pushpanjali, Dakor, finished third.

In his closing remarks, Fr Macwan reminded the students that the quiz was more than just a contest; it was a means to deepen their knowledge of Jesus through the intercession of Mary. His words underscored the true purpose of the event—to foster a closer relationship with Christ through the study of the scriptures.

Sr Florin Pinto SMI, Superior SMI Kathlal, expressed her admiration for the event, stating, "The quiz was exceptionally well-organized, congratulations to the entire AmrutDhara team.” Her appreciation underscored the collective efforts and dedication of the organizing team, which included the Salesian community, SYM youth, participants, and auxiliary staff.

The day concluded with a sense of fulfillment and gratitude among all involved. The participants left not only with the satisfaction of having competed but also with a deeper understanding and appreciation of their faith. The 20th Marian Quiz Competition was a testament to the power of knowledge, faith, leaving an indelible mark on all who took part.
