The recent ‘Don Bosco Cup’ basketball tournament was a thrilling showcase of talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship, commemorating the jubilee celebrations of Don Bosco High School & Jr. College, Naigaon. Held on September 27 and 28, 2024, for the boys’ and girls’ teams respectively, this event brought together NGOs and teams from various schools and communities, united by a shared passion for the game and a commitment to the values of Don Bosco.

The tournament not only highlighted exceptional athletic skills but also honoured the rich legacy of St. John Bosco, whose vision for education and personal development continues to inspire us. With a focus on fostering discipline, respect, and collaboration, the tournament served as a fitting tribute to his enduring influence.

The tournament featured three age categories: Under 12, Under 14, and Under 17, with around 31 teams competing in a series of exhilarating matches, culminating in nail-biting finals that had the audience on the edge of their seats. Spectators were treated to impressive displays of athleticism and strategic gameplay, showcasing the hard work and dedication of all participants.

During the opening ceremony, Fr. Anthony Fonseca, the principal, emphasized, “St. John Bosco saw the potential in every young person and inspired them to chase their dreams and nurture their talents. As you compete, I encourage you to embody his values of camaraderie, respect, and sportsmanship. While the competition may be intense, remember that the friendships you build and the lessons you learn are what truly count.”

The closing ceremony celebrated not just the champions but also sportsmanship and dedication, with awards presented to each category.

At the closing ceremony, the Vice Principal and Sport’s Director, Fr. Joaquim Fernandes addressed the gathering saying, “As we reflect on the success of the Don Bosco Cup, we are reminded of the importance of sports in building character and community. We look forward to making this tournament an annual tradition, further strengthening the bonds among our schools and celebrating the spirit of Don Bosco.”
