by Fr Jesu Robinson
Bosco Samajik Vikas Sanstha (BSVS), Walvanda celebrated the feast of St. Dominic Savio on the 6th July 2024 along with the ITI students and the oratory children to honour the young saint known for his unwavering faith and dedication to serving others. The day was marked by Eucharistic celebrations in the morning for the community, inspiring assembly with the ITI students and a wonderful inauguration of a new oratory, all emphasizing the enduring spirit of youth and holiness.
The festivities commenced with a deeply spiritual Eucharistic celebration, uniting the community in prayer and thanksgiving. Rev. Fr Jesu Robinson, the rector of the institute celebrated the Eucharist, invoking the intercession of St. Dominic Savio for the youngster's intentions and offering words of encouragement to the community members.
Following the Eucharist, the focus shifted to Don Bosco Technical Institute (DBTI), where an assembly was held in honour of St. Dominic Savio. The ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp by the management, a staff and a student, symbolizing the light of knowledge and wisdom that Dominic Savio exemplified in his short but impactful life. Students and the staff members gathered with a sense of reverence, reflecting on Dominic's virtues of humility, dedication, and service. Fr Robinson, then highlighted the life of St. Dominic Savio and encouraged the students to be simple and humble. He said, “Do ordinary things in extra ordinary ways.”, taking from the life of St. Dominic Savio.
The highlight of the day was the inauguration of the new oratory within Bosco Samajik Vikas Sanstha, where 90 eager children from the local community of Walvanda and Sadakpada eagerly awaited the opportunity to partake in activities that promote education, fun and masti. The program began with the lighting of the lamp by all the dignitaries.
Fr Monty Rodrigues, the principal of the DBTI was the chief guest for the program. He officially opened and inaugurated the oratory with a heartfelt dedication to St. Dominic Savio, emphasizing the importance of nurturing young hearts and minds in the path of faith. He gave an impactful thought on ‘the life in military and the life in oratory’, there is discipline in both, allowing us to grow.
As the sun set over BSVS, Walvanda, hearts were lifted by the spirit of St. Dominic Savio, inspiring all to strive for greater faith, compassion, and service in their daily lives. Miss Mohini Baraf, an oratory girl said, “We really enjoyed a lot. We will come every day.”
The legacy of this remarkable young saint continues to shine brightly in the hearts of all who seek to live with joy and devotion to God.
