The Don Bosco Snehalaya Children’s Home, Vadodara, marked the beginning of its Silver Jubilee Year with a prayerful and meaningful inaugural celebration held on the evening of 14th June 2025 at the Snehalaya hall. The event brought together the Salesian community, staff, and children of Snehalaya, with the Salesians of Don Bosco Makarpura joining in solidarity and joyful fellowship.
What began twenty-five years ago as a humble outreach for street children has now grown into a full-fledged Child Care Institute (CCI) recognized by the Government of India. Today, Don Bosco Snehalaya stands as a safe, nurturing home for boys under 18 who are in need of care and protection, embodying the vision of Don Bosco through tireless dedication and compassionate service.
The prayer service unfolded with spiritual grace, beginning with a soulful Prayer Song, followed by the Prayer of the Faithful, the Lighting of the Lamp, a melodious song rendered by the boys, and a reflective narration tracing the 25-year journey of Snehalaya. The highlight was the message from Fr. Baptist Monteiro SDB, Rector of Don Bosco Snehalaya, who stirred hearts with his gratitude-filled address.
Fr. Baptist recalled the legacy of love and sacrifice offered by generations of Salesians, lay collaborators, and benefactors. “Today is a moment to gratefully remember every Salesian and staff member who has worked hard to build Snehalaya into the caring, quality-driven institute it is today,” he shared. He acknowledged the immense contribution of all those who walked this journey — through challenges and joys, growth and change — as one family.
The evening concluded with warm fellowship over scrumptious snacks, making the gathering not only a moment of spiritual depth but also one of joyful togetherness and remembrance.
As the Silver Jubilee Year unfolds, a line-up of events and celebrations await, aiming to honour the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future of Don Bosco Snehalaya.
