By Fr Daresh Rathwa for BISMumbai

Piloo Mody Don Bosco High School and Don Bosco English Medium school, Narukot. celebrated 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' from 12 to 15 August 2022. It had been almost a weeklong program which includes varied competitions to mark the 75 golden years of India's independence, to honour and remember those prominent leaders who shed their blood and sacrificed their lives to give us a free nation.

Both the schools had organised activities on the theme "Har Ghar Tiranga". The aim of the various activities and programs was to help the students to comprehend the deeper meaning of the Indian National Flag. Activities like drawing, singing, rallies, speeches and talks were an eye opener for the students to know more about our country and cultivate the attitude of being respectful and grateful to all those who have contributed and sacrificed their lives and made India a free and better place to live in. These celebrations taught the students what it meant to be a citizen of India with due responsibility.

The students were quite overwhelmed and satisfied with all the activities. A student remarked, "I have never heard and no one has taught us the real meaning of the tricolour, but today I am simply overjoyed." Another student said, "I thank my teacher for organizing these activities on the theme 'Har Ghar Tiranga' which has really helped me to understand the importance of my National Flag and my individual contribution that can make my country a safe place for my brothers and sisters to live in."

Thus, the weeklong festivity aroused in the students a deep sense of patriotism and the spirit of gratitude to the great leaders of our country.
