BIS #6971 Choral Recitation at St Joseph’s Wadala
By Ms Placida De Sequeira Nazareth for BISMumbai
St Joseph's High School, Wadala, organised an inter-house choral recitation competition on 7 July 2023, in their school auditorium. This event marked a significant milestone, as it was the first time such a competition took place at the school. The primary objective behind organising this competition was to foster English language learning among students by enhancing their speaking, reading, and listening skills, as well as their memory and oral interpretation abilities.
Students from Grades 8 to 10 eagerly participated in the competition, representing their respective houses: Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow. Each house was assigned a poem, which the students prepared with the guidance and support of their teachers and captains. The choral recitation competition proved to be an exceptional showcase of students' enthusiasm, vigour, impressive facial expressions, and apt voice modulation. The synchronised efforts of the participants were a splendid example of teamwork.
The competition was evaluated by two esteemed judges: Mrs Diana Pereira, the former Principal of The Dadar Parsee Youths Assembly High School, and Mrs Maria Goretti Fonseca, a former teacher from St Paul's High School, Dadar. The judges commended the students for their remarkable enthusiasm throughout the event. Their task of selecting the best house proved challenging, given the exceptional performances showcased by all participants. The judges' words of appreciation emphasised the resounding success of the competition.
The competition demonstrated the strenuous efforts put forth by the teachers in training the students to recite their chosen poems. The tough competition showcased the dedication and hard work of both students and faculty alike. A special acknowledgement was given to Mr Lloyd Nunes, who impeccably organised the event, ensuring its smooth execution.
The school administration extends a special thanks to Principal, Fr Blaise Fernandes, and the Management for their unwavering support and constant encouragement of the students in all their endeavours. Their continuous support played a pivotal role in the grand success of the event.
The inter-house choral recitation competition at St Joseph's High School not only provided a platform for students to showcase their language and performance skills but also fostered a sense of camaraderie, teamwork, and discipline among the participants.
