On the Feast of Our Lady of the Visitation, Don Bosco Academy Nerul received a visit from Archbishop John Rodrigues. Though informal, the visit coincided with the Archbishop's celebration of the feast day Mass at the neighboring parish.
He was welcomed by Fr Adolph Furtado and Fr Shekhar Mariadas, with Mrs Diana S.B. presenting him with a bouquet. The Archbishop was then taken on a guided tour of the institution.
During the visit, he viewed the renovated kindergarten classrooms, the activity dome, and the NIOS learning centre, which supports students form underprivileged backgrounds. In the academic and computer sections, he interacted with staff including Mr Noel Saldanha and Mr Alex Rajan, expressing interest in the ongoing educational initiatives.
He took particular note of a recent interfaith job fair hosted at the school, jointly organized by the Catholic Sabha and the Association of Muslim Professionals, coordinated by Fr Allwyn Misquitta. The Archbishop commended the effort, describing it as a meaningful example of collaboration and inclusivity.
In the media training room and recording studio, he was briefed on the programs being conducted. He appreciated the creative approach being taken, observing, 'It's wonderful how the Salesians have found different ways to bring people to the Lord.'
The Archbishop also visited the Ikshana Therapy Care Centre and Occupational Therapy Room, part of the Prafulta initiative, which provides counselling, special education, and therapeutic support for children with special needs. He offered a blessing and expressed appreciation for the centre's work, especially in supporting children with autism and sensory integration challenges.
In the vocational training section, he interacted with students undergoing training in tailoring, nail art, and other skill development programs. He encouraged them, remarking, 'Perhaps one day we'll see your designs in the mainstream.'
Throughout the visit, Archbishop Rodrigues was noted for his attentive and approachable manner. He offered blessing to staff and students, engaging with the school community with warmth and sincerity.
The visit encouraged the Don Bosco Nerul community in its ongoing efforts to integrate education, faith, and social development, affirming the value of their work in service of young people.
