by Martin D’Souza for BIS Mumbai
On February 22, 2025, St. John Bosco Church, Borivali, was filled with vibrant energy as the celebration of the Sunday School Annual Thanksgiving Day 2024-25 unfolded under the theme "Hope Moves People Valorous—Creation to Resurrection.” The event began with a reverent welcome prayer led by Fr Evangelo, the Spiritual Director, which set an atmosphere of reflection and anticipation. This was immediately followed by an uplifting welcome song performed by the Std. 8 children, whose harmonious voices united the parishioners and sparked a spirit of joyful celebration.
A specially prepared video presentation narrated the journey of Sunday School over the past year. It showcased a variety of activities, including action songs in individual classes, engaging movie sessions, memorable picnics, the inspiring Vocation Bible Joy (VBJ), as well as the festive Christmas Star and crib displays. This retrospective celebration of academic and spiritual development was a testament to the hard work and creativity that defined the year.
The evening took on an added significance with the presence of our esteemed Chief Guest, Fr Aloysius Furtado SDB, a revered community priest whose tireless efforts laid the foundation of both the parish and the Sunday School at Don Bosco Borivali. In recognition of his long service, Fr Aloysius was felicitated along with the other Priests of the Parish. Fr Manuel, the Parish Priest and Rector, warmly welcomed the audience, expressing gratitude for the collective efforts of the children, catechists, and parents.
A highlight of the program was the Prize Distribution Ceremony, managed by Ms Vina, during which awards were presented to children for their overall performance and for those who excelled in the Faith Formation programs organized by the Deanery. Following this, Fr Aloysius delivered an address that resonated with the themes of hope, valor, and the transformative power of faith.
The event reached its artistic zenith with the musical performance titled “Hope Moves People Valorous." This elaborate production, featuring a blend of dialogue, stirring hymns, and expressive choreography, vividly brought to life the narrative of Creation to Resurrection. Executed with energy and passion by the children, the performance left the audience deeply moved and filled with renewed hope.
The evening concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Fr Evangelo, who acknowledged the efforts of everyone involved and expressed sincere gratitude to the entire parish community. The Sunday School Annual Thanksgiving Day 2024-25 stands as a celebration of faith, creativity, and community spirit, reaffirming the enduring message that hope moves people toward a brighter future.
