BIS #7421 Annual Sports Day Celebration at Don Bosco Primary School and Junior College and Savio Kindergarten

The Annual Sports Day of Savio Kindergarten, Don Bosco Primary School, and Don Bosco Junior College was celebrated with great enthusiasm on November 27, 29 and December 6, 2024 respectively on the school grounds. The event was graced by the chief guests, Mr Balkrishna Katre, a Former PT Master at Don Bosco High School, Yerwada, Ms Apurva Joshi, a National Level Swimmer and the Rector and Principal, Fr Crispino D’Souza, alongside other esteemed dignitaries, including the Parish Priest, Fr Michael Fernandes; Administrator, Fr Alex Carvalho; Head Teacher of the Primary Section, Mrs Sangeeta Patil; Head Teacher of the Secondary Section, Ms Varsha Hiwale; Supervisor of the Secondary Section, Ms Manjusha Thorat; Supervisor of the Junior College, Sir Leo D’Souza; and Savio Kindergarten Coordinator, Ms Rina Chandekar, added grandeur to the event.
The day began with a solemn prayer led by Ms. Abigail John, setting a reflective tone for the event, followed by the melodious rendition of the school anthem. Fr. Crispino then presented a sapling to the chief guests, symbolizing growth, respect, and gratitude.
The chief guests were introduced to the gathering. Mr. Katre was highlighted as an accomplished sportsperson and a university-level umpire, known for his kind-hearted and helpful nature. Similarly, Ms. Apurva Joshi was commended for her dedication and passion for swimming.
One of the most anticipated moments of the day was the parade by the young students. With bright smiles and synchronized steps, the children radiated enthusiasm and pride as they marched past the chief guests, who warmly acknowledged their efforts. The parade symbolized the unity, discipline, and team spirit nurtured at Don Bosco Primary School.
Following the parade, the sports flag was hoisted to honor the school and its talented athletes. The lighting of the sports torch added a symbolic touch, representing determination, perseverance, and leadership. The students then took the sportsperson's oath, pledging to uphold the spirit of fairness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
The event continued with vibrant cultural performances. The students performed a colorful mass drill with pompoms, spreading joy and energy. This was followed by an impressive aerobics routine and zumba combining rhythmic movements with fitness, emphasizing the importance of health and exercise.
In his address, Mr. Katre highlighted the vital role of sports and exercise in maintaining physical and mental well-being. His words inspired not only the students but also the parents and teachers present.
The highlight of the day was the athletic events, which included thrilling flat races, prop races, relays, penalty games, and a tug-of-war. The energy on the field was infectious as students participated with determination and zeal, cheered on by their peers and families. A series of fun games for parents brought laughter and added excitement to the event. Winners were awarded medals and certificates, and the joyful faces of the participants reflected their pride and accomplishment.
Hamza, a student who participated in the relay race, shared, "Winning the race was amazing. We practiced a lot, and my friends cheering for me made me so happy. I’ll never forget this day."
As the event concluded, the sports torch was ceremonially extinguished, and the flag was lowered with due reverence. The celebration ended with the national anthem, leaving everyone with a sense of pride and joy. The Annual Sports Day 2024 was a vibrant celebration of teamwork, discipline, and the spirit of healthy competition. It not only showcased the athletic talents of the students but also fostered a deeper sense of community and togetherness within the Don Bosco family, creating memories to cherish for a lifetime.
