by Shaila Misal with Father Justus Mendis for BISMumbai

On 10 October 2020, Don Bosco English Medium School Savedi organized ‘Have a story to say?’ storytelling competition for classes I to IV. Students were asked to send unedited recorded videos, with many students actively participating with the help of their guardians. The stories were from within the syllabus and from outside the syllabus. Teachers Smita and Prerna evaluated the competition, followed by the announcement of the winners and awarding of certificates.

On 12 October, ‘Speak up for yourself’, an elocution competition was organised with different themes. The theme for classes V to VII were: Healthy Environment-Need of the Hour and Our situation in the Current Pandemic, while the theme for classes VIII to X were: Our Social Responsibility for a Clean Society, Online Schooling-My Opinion, and Benefits of Internet. Teachers Monica and Shaila evaluated the participants who were awarded 'certificates of appreciation', with the winners receiving 'certificates of honour'. The videos of the winners and the participants are to be soon uploaded on the school's YouTube Channel.

Both these competitions helped students to speak up with confidence, express themselvesespecially on the current scenario, enabling them to communicate flawlessly in English.
