BIS #7432 From Memories to Milestones: A Grand Reunion at Don Bosco High School, Yerwada

The Past Pupils Association of Yerwada celebrated a momentous milestone with a grand reunion to mark 50 glorious years of Don Bosco Institution. This remarkable event, held on December 14, 2024, at the Don Bosco School Grounds, was a heartfelt tribute to the institution’s legacy and achievements over the past five decades.
The evening commenced with the warm welcoming of the esteemed Chief Guest, Fr Donald Fernandes, Provincial Delegate of the Province Association of Past Pupils, and a Former Principal of Don Bosco High School. Joining him were the visionary leader Fr Michael Mascarenhas, a former Principal whose foresight secured the property that became the foundation of the institution, and the current Rector and Principal Fr Crispino D’Souza. They were accompanied by Fr Lorenzo D’Souza and Fr Ajit Munis the Former Principals of the School. Fr Anthony Patole, an alumnus and a Salesian along with other dignitaries. Teachers, both past and present, who have been guiding lights in shaping the lives of countless students, were also warmly welcomed to this nostalgic celebration.
The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Fr Michael Mascarenhas garlanded the statue of Don Bosco, paying homage to the institution's patron, St. John Bosco Following this, Ms Merelin Makasare, the Vice President of Gex, led the gathering in the Past Pupils’ prayer. The spiritual tone of the evening was further enriched by a beautiful and graceful prayer dance that sought blessings from the Almighty.
The felicitation ceremony honored the pillars of the Don Bosco Educational Complex—dedicated fathers, committed teachers, and mentors who have left an indelible mark on the institution. Retired teachers were invited onto the stage and celebrated for their strong support, dedication and service rendered to the institution. Fr Crispino D’Souza addressed the gathering with a touch of nostalgia, sharing how happy he was to return as Principal after 25 years. He fondly remembered Mrs D’Souza, whom he described as a motherly figure. Reflecting on the institution’s journey, he spoke about the school’s transformation from the humble beginnings of a tin shed to the vibrant educational complex it is today—a feat achieved through the dedication of hardworking staff. A solemn moment of silence was observed in memory of those who contributed to the institution and are now in heaven.
The Chief Guest, Fr. Donald Fernandes, also addressed the gathering with an inspiring speech. He emphasized the fulfillment of Don Bosco’s vision and mission for Yerwada, crediting the collective efforts of all those involved in this journey. He urged the attendees to take back three important values "look, listen, and learn" and carry forward the mission of Don Bosco in their lives.
Fr. Michael Mascarenhas followed with a short yet profound address, sharing an example about a cobbler. He concluded his message with a prayer that all those connected to Don Bosco may remain united under God’s grace.
The evening came alive with vibrant performances as the past pupils took to the stage, rekindling the ties that bind them to their Alma Mater. Their dance performances, filled with energy paid a fitting tribute to Don Bosco’s legacy. Sir Wali mesmerized the audience with a melodious medley of Kishore Kumar songs, followed by captivating dance performances by the past pupils.
The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mr Francis Britto, President of the Past Pupils Association, who expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to making the event a success. A special birthday song was sung for teacher Blandina Britto, who celebrated her birthday that evening. The event concluded with lively music by a band, followed by a sumptuous dinner.
When asked about their experience, some past pupils shared their thoughts:
“It felt like stepping back in time. Seeing our teachers and peers again brought a flood of memories. The event was beautifully organized, and the performances truly showcased the spirit of Don Bosco.”
The gathering was not just a celebration of the past, but a reaffirmation of the strong, enduring ties that bind the Don Bosco family.
