BIS #7259 Don Bosco Institutions Celebrate 78th Independence Day

On August 15, 2024, Don Bosco institutions across the province commemorated India's 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and national pride. The celebrations were marked by flag hoisting ceremonies, cultural programs, and inspiring speeches highlighting the significance of freedom and the responsibilities it entails.

Don Bosco School & Junior College, Nashik, welcomed Fr Ivo Coelho and Mr Vijay Katore as guests. Students presented skits, speeches, and dances, while the guests stressed the importance of education and discipline.

At Divyadaan in Nashik, the day began with a unique celebration of Independence Day with a message from Fr Robert, the Rector, on the importance of 'letting go' and 'letting God' take control. The flag hoisting ceremony was attended by the neighboring Capuchin Friars community, with Fr Thomas Santiagu, Provincial of the Hyderabad Province, as the Chief Guest. He emphasized the Salesians' role in shaping responsible youth for the nation.

The Independence Day program at Shelter Don Bosco Nashik began with an impressive children’s march past, followed by the hoisting of the national flag by Fr Lawrence Vincent SDB, who spoke about the essence of freedom and the importance of embracing responsibilities that come with it.

Don Bosco English Medium School in Kapadvanj welcomed Mr Manubahi Parmar, a retired Assistant Sub Inspector, as their chief guest. The celebration included flag hoisting, cultural performances, and a speech by Mr. Manubahi on India's freedom struggle and the importance of education.

Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Nerul, celebrated Independence Day with great enthusiasm and national pride, with Mr Milind Wagle, an international sports commentator, as the chief guest. He encouraged students to pursue their dreams with dedication and love for their country.

At Don Bosco High School and Junior College, Borivli, Mr Conan Pinto from the Times of India was the chief guest. Students performed a narrative dance and patriotic songs honoring unsung heroes of the freedom struggle.

Bosco Boys Home, Borivali, hosted Mrs Helen Fonseca, former CWC chairperson, who spoke about good citizenship. The event included cultural programs and a football tournament organized by the past pupil unit.

St Joseph's Wadala's celebrations featured a ‘guard of honour’ led by the N.C.C cadets of the school, cultural performances and a prize distribution ceremony. The chief guest for the day was SSC topper Master Dhruv Sukale.

Don Bosco High School, Yerwada, Pune, held a guard of honor and flag hoisting ceremony with SSC topper Samyak Survase as the chief guest whose presence inspired everyone, especially the students.

Across all institutions, the Independence Day celebrations served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and the collective responsibility to uphold the principles of liberty, unity, and national progress. The events fostered patriotism among students and provided a platform for reflection on the nation's past, present, and future.
