BIS #7307 Feast Day Celebration at Sahayak Mata Church, Kawant

by Cl. Veenus James for BIS Mumbai

The annual feast day of Sahayak Mata Church in Kawant was celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm on September 15, 2024. This occasion brought together parishioners, clergy, and the local community in an expression of faith, gratitude, and fellowship. The day was marked by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, cultural programs, and a fellowship meal. On the eve of the feast, Mahabhajan was held by the local bhajan mandal and past pupil unit of Kawant, during which people also made their confession.

In preparation for the feast, the parishioners observed a nine-day novena. Each day of the novena involved special themes, centered on the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Sahayak Mata, the patroness of the church. The novena served as a time for spiritual renewal and devotion, allowing the faithful to prepare their hearts and minds for the grand feast day.

The highlight of the feast day was the solemn Holy Eucharist, presided over by Fr. Malcolm, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Baroda. The Mass was a solemn and spiritually uplifting experience, with the church beautifully decorated by the Youth in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

During his homily, Fr. Malcolm spoke on the theme of faith and the role of Mary as an intercessor and guide for the Christian faithful. He emphasized the importance of looking to Mary as a model of obedience, humility, and devotion to God’s will. Fr. Malcolm also praised the parish for its strong sense of community and encouraged the faithful to continue fostering unity, service, and love within the parish and the wider community.

The liturgy was enhanced by a choir that led the congregation in soulful hymns, creating an atmosphere of deep reverence and joy. The Holy Eucharist concluded with a blessing and prayer for the parish, invoking God’s grace and protection upon all the families and individuals present.

Following the Holy Eucharist, a felicitation ceremony was held to honor Fr. Malcolm and all the religious present from the neighbouring communities for their leadership and support. The parishioners expressed their gratitude to all the religious with a token of appreciation from the parish council and past pupils on behalf of the entire community.

A cultural program followed, showcasing the rich traditions and talents of the local community. The boarding children performed traditional dances and a song, reflecting the joy and festive spirit of the day. The cultural program allowed the parishioners to come together and celebrate their faith through creative expression.

The celebration concluded with a fellowship meal  prepared and served by the parish volunteers, where all the faithful shared a meal together. This time of fellowship allowed the parishioners to connect, strengthen friendships, and build a deeper sense of community.

Overall, the feast day celebration at Sahayak Mata Church was a resounding success, filled with prayer, joy, and togetherness. The event not only honored the Blessed Virgin Mary but also reinforced the bonds of faith and friendship within the parish community.
