BIS #7019 Cleanliness Drive by the Youth of Ahmednagar

By Fr Richard Burkhao for BISMumbai

The youth from the three Salesian parishes in Ahmednagar organised a cleanliness drive at Chand Bibi Mahal, Ahmednagar, on 13 August 2023 in preparation for the Independence Day. The youth from the three Salesian parishes in the town, viz. Don Bosco Church, St Anne’s Church, and St John’s Church, along with the Salesians, took the initiative for a social cause. 55 youth came together and participated in the drive.

The group gathered at Chand Bibi Mahal and each of them was provided with a mask and hand gloves. Chand Bibi Mahal is a historical site located near Ahmednagar. The palace is the tomb of one of the famous ministers of Murtaza Nazam Shah I, Salabat Khan. Several people visit this historical site during the year, more especially on Independence Day. Keeping this thought in mind and harboring the feeling of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the youth under the guidance of the Salesian fathers took up the venture of cleaning this beautiful historical site so that it would be more welcoming for the visitors.

The youth carried out this cleanliness drive with joy and enthusiasm. What added to their excitement was the encouraging presence of the Salesians Fr James Tusacno, Fr Vishawas Pereira, Fr Ajay D’ Monte and Fr Richard Burkhao, who participated actively in the cleanliness drive.

The youth were very happy to be part of this unique social outreach. Mr Devashish Bhosle said, “I felt very happy to be part of this drive because it gave me a feeling of pride and a sense of responsibility towards my country.” Expressing her view Ms K. B. Seerena  said, “It was a wonderful experience to be with so many youths. More than the event, it was wonderful to be with each other’s company.”

With a sense of pride, Ms Rutuja Shelke said, “Not only today but we should always keep our country clean. And not only our surroundings, but also our minds should also be kept clean to help our country grow.”
