BIS #7412 Diamond Jubilee of Excellence: 60th Annual Sports Meet Celebration

Don Bosco ITI Kurla, inaugurated its Diamond Jubilee Sports Meet at the campus grounds on November 23, 2024. It was a magnificent celebration of athleticism, teamwork, and solidarity. Fr Nelson Carvalho, the campus minister, unveiled the official Diamond Jubilee Sports Meet flag and encouraged the students to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and excellence.
The meticulously planned event began with a vibrant welcome featuring a traditional Lezim performance. The March Past followed, with participants from various houses displaying discipline and unity. The lighting of the torch marked the symbolic beginning of the sports meet, igniting the spirit of competition and perseverance. The participants collectively took the Sportsman Oath, reaffirming their commitment to fair play and sportsmanship. Ms Bindu Prasad, the Chief Guest, officially inaugurated the Sports Meet. In her address, she emphasized the importance of sports in fostering discipline and resilience. Sharing her journey of growing up in a conservative Rajasthan after moving from Kerala, she shared how her passion for football encouraged her to never give up and to play fearlessly while ignoring societal pressures. She emphasized that sports should be pursued as a passion, not merely as a career or for monetary gains, advising parents not to impose their aspirations on their children without understanding their interests. She also highlighted the value of losing in sports, as it teaches lessons, broadens perspectives, and fosters personal growth.
The sports events commenced immediately, starting with the 100-meter race, followed by the highly anticipated 4x100 meter house-wise relay. These events witnessed enthusiastic participation, with athletes displaying remarkable speed and agility.
The day progressed with a range of staff sports, adding a unique touch of camaraderie between staff members. Football, volleyball, box cricket, and kabaddi matches brought cheer and excitement, with each team vying for victory. One of the most touching moments was the race for specially-abled students, showcasing their determination and spirit, earning heartfelt applause from the audience. The tug-of-war event between the yellow and blue houses was a highlight, embodying the strength and collective effort of the participants.
At the close of the event, Fr. Charles Anthony, the Executive Director, delivered a motivational speech emphasizing the importance of sports in holistic education. He reminded everyone that winning and losing are integral parts of sports, and even those who lose should take pride in their efforts, knowing they gave their 100%. The Guest of Honor, Mr. Allwyn Fernandes, shared his inspiring journey, recalling his time as a student at Don Bosco ITI, which was then known as St. Joseph’s ITI. Despite being discouraged from pursuing the Turner trade as a career, he persevered and is now a Chief Engineer in a prestigious shipping company.
Mr Ramakrishnana Lakshmanan, presided over the prize distribution ceremony, honouring the winners and participants for their exceptional performances, with the Blue House claiming the Best House Trophy for their stellar achievements.
The 60th Annual Sports Day was a memorable event that celebrated the true essence of sportsmanship, teamwork, and joy, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who attended.
