BIS #7428 Session on Personality Development at Don Bosco High School Yerwada
by Alphonsa Ohol for BIS Mumbai
The Personality Development Session for the staff of Don Bosco Edu Complex, Yerwada was held on December 13, 2024 in the school hall. The session was led by Fr Tony D’Souza SJ and began with an introduction by Fr Crispino D'Souza, Principal and Rector of Don Bosco High School.
Fr Tony, a renowned psychologist and spiritual guide, is a disciple of the late Fr Tony D'Mello SJ. Currently associated with Premanjali, he brings a wealth of experience and insight. The session was designed to help participants reflect on themselves and discover ways to grow personally and professionally.
Fr Tony began by sharing a thought-provoking story about entering heaven, asking, "Have you truly found joy within yourself, and has your life brought joy to others?" He emphasized that happiness often depends on external factors, while true joy is found within and stems from freedom and inner peace.
The session was interactive and engaging. Fr Tony divided the staff into groups and conducted activities like "Two Truths and a Lie" and another exercise encouraging participants to unknot themselves. He also posed a critical question: "Have you chosen teaching as a profession or a vocation?"
A powerful video was shared, highlighting the lasting impact teachers have on their students and how children remember their educators years later. Fr Tony then introduced the concept of ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and their effects on students, such as physical and emotional neglect, domestic violence, and other challenges.
Another video inspired teachers to reflect on their qualities by describing a teacher in three words. Group discussions followed, with representatives sharing their insights and reflecting on their strengths and areas for improvement. Fr Tony encouraged honest introspection, emphasizing that change begins within oneself.
The session concluded with a heartwarming video and the song "Teacher, I wrote this Song for You," left everyone deeply moved. A vote of thanks was delivered by Prashant sir, expressing gratitude to Fr Tony for the enriching and insightful session.
It was a day of learning, self-discovery, and inspiration, reminding everyone of the profound impact teachers can have on shaping lives. When asked to a few staff members, they described the session as engaging, thought-provoking, and highly interactive.
