The General Body Meeting (GBM) held on Sunday, July 27, 2025, witnessed an engaging and thought-provoking Parenting Session led by Fr Solomon Rapol at Our Lady of Dolours Church, Wadala. Around 120 parents of Sunday School students attended the meeting and few of the catechists, making it a successful and enriching gathering.
Fr Rapol, known for his wisdom and deep understanding of Christian life, spoke passionately on the theme of Christian Parenting in today’s world. His session focused on key areas that are vital for nurturing children with love, discipline, and spiritual guidance.
Key Insights from the Session:
1. Digital Balance:
Fr Rapol emphasized the growing influence of technology on young minds. He cautioned parents about the dangers of overexposing children to the digital world, which often brings with its negative influences, distractions, and distorted values. He encouraged parents to be vigilant, set healthy boundaries, and be role models in the responsible use of gadgets.
2. Quality Time over Quantity:
Highlighting the importance of presence over presents, he urged parents to spend meaningful, quality time with their children. Fr Rapol pointed out how unrealistic expectations and pressure from adults can create anxiety and fear in young hearts. He encouraged parents to cultivate a safe, open, and loving home environment where children feel heard, supported, and accepted.
3. Faith-Based Upbringing:
Stressing the role of spiritual grounding, Fr Rapol called upon families to nurture children in the love of Christ. He reminded parents of their responsibility to model Church teachings and values, making faith a living and active part of daily family life.
He quoted the scripture verse from Ephesians 6:4, stating, "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." This served as a powerful reminder of the sacred duty entrusted to parents.
Throughout the session, Fr Rapol shared real-life stories and practical examples that made the discussion both relatable and impactful. His gentle humor and compassionate tone struck a chord with the audience, leaving many deeply moved and inspired.
Following the session, Tr Steffinie, the Coordinator of Sunday School addressed the gathering with a few important updates. She shared details of upcoming events and activities planned for the Sunday School and informed parents that the quarterly planner would soon be circulated for their reference and participation.
The meeting ended on a note of gratitude and reflection, with many parents expressing appreciation for the timely guidance and spiritual encouragement received during the session.
