BIS #7066 DBYS Organises Marian Treasure Hunt 2.0
By Ms Marilyn Pereira for BISMumbai
On 17 September 2023, Don Bosco Youth Services (DBYS), Matunga, organised the second edition of the Marian Treasure Hunt that brought together 60 enthusiastic youth participants from various parishes across Mumbai. This meticulously organised event combined elements of adventure, exploration, catechesis, and devotion.
The groundwork for this exciting day commenced a month before the event, with Fr Leon Cruz Ratinam and Cl. Melton Suares at the helm of the organisation. They were wholeheartedly supported by a team of diligent animators and volunteers who spared no effort to ensure that the event would become an unforgettable experience for all participants.
The participants were divided into nine teams, each guided by an animator. The objective of the Treasure Hunt was for the teams to go to the churches dedicated to Mary on a route given to them. What set this treasure hunt apart was the fact that each team embarked on their journey from a different Marian Parish, ensuring a diverse exploration of Mumbai. At each church, the youth were engaged in learning more about that particular church while also solving Marian puzzles. Acts of charity and the recital of the Rosary at each destination added a profound spiritual dimension to the adventure. Thanks to the limited cash provided, participants had to step out of their comfort zones and utilise local public transportation to commute to various locations, enhancing their sense of adventure.
Participants shared their overwhelming joy and enthusiasm for the event. Ashley D’Cunha described it as "an incredibly well-organized and immensely enjoyable experience." Preeti Topno from Nerul expressed her excitement, stating, "I had a lot of fun today. This was unlike anything I'd ever experienced before. I relished the opportunity to interact with new people and experiences." Patricia Fernandes from Victories concurred, saying, "It was an amazing experience, and I had a great deal of fun." Daniel D'Souza of St Paul's Dadar summed up everybody’s feelings: "I cannot forget this well-spent treasure hunt day."
The treasure hunt reached its zenith at Don Bosco, Matunga, where participants enjoyed lunch together. However, the day's journey of learning and spiritual enrichment did not conclude there. Following lunch, a Marian Quiz was conducted, augmenting each participant's understanding of Mary, her apparitions, and our devotion to her. The day’s events concluded with the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Fr Leon Cruz. In his sermon, he underscored the significance of forgiveness and Mary's intercession for her children.
As the sun set on this memorable day, it was apparent that the Marian Treasure Hunt 2.0 had left an indelible mark on all who took part. Drushti Bhosle from Don Bosco, Borivli, commended the meticulous planning and execution of the event, underscoring the animators' dedication to creating quizzes and clues. She also emphasised the spirit of cooperation among the teams and the valuable lessons learned, such as discovering new churches and making the most of the trip within a limited budget.
