BIS #7382 Diwali Dhamaka at Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra, Kedgaon

Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra, organized the annual "Diwali Dhamaka" celebrations for 391 children from 21 villages in and around Ahmednagar on October 28, 2024. The children were welcomed with a packet of biscuits upon registration for the day-long event.

The festivities began at 11:15 a.m. with a traditional lighting of the lamp led by the hosts and representatives from among the children. Fr George D’Abreo, Fr Clarence Martis, Fr Bento D’Souza, Sr Geeta Gonsalves, and Mr Yogesh Mirpagar were honored with shawls and ceremonial coconuts. Ms Riya Mhankale kicked off the program with an action song, "What a Happy Day," to which all the children enthusiastically danced along.

Fr D’Abreo, the Rector of BGVK Kedgaon, then introduced the day's events. One of the highlights was a captivating 45-minute magic show by Magician Dhananjay, who delighted the children with tricks that sparked laughter and wonder. The magician's performance included turning burnt paper into colored cloth, producing umbrellas of green, yellow, and red, and even making coins appear from a child's ears, mouth, and nose. These magical moments enthralled the young audience until it was time for lunch. 

After lunch, a cultural program highlighted the children’s talents, with 20 traditional dances celebrating Maharashtra's rich heritage. Four of these performances’ paid homage to local legends and historical figures, while the remaining dances showcased Marathi folk themes. The children, adorned in vibrant, traditional costumes, filled the stage with energy and pride, embodying the spirit of their cultural roots.

The day concluded with lively action songs led by Ms Riya Mhankale and all the teachers from the remedial classes, including favorites like "What a Happy Day," "Making Melody," and "Birdie Dance." Each child received a special souvenir as a keepsake from the event, adding a personal touch to the day's memories. The children's feedback echoed their joy and enthusiasm, with many already looking forward to next year’s Diwali Dhamaka. The event was coordinated by Sr Gonsalves, who leads Project READ (Remedial Education and Development). This project, funded by Bosconet, Don Bosco Network, India, involves 20 teachers who provide 2 hours of remedial education six days a week, supplemented with activity-based learning on Saturdays. Project READ has become a cherished part of the children’s learning journey, ensuring they receive both support and joy in their education.
