BIS #6208 DBTI Walvanda 'self-employed' alumni return to say 'thanks'

DBTI (Don Bosco Technical Institute) Walvanda alumni Rahul Kandela and Sachin Parahad paid a courtesy visit to their alma mater on 06 November 2020. They met Director Father Anaclete D’Mello and Principal Father Monty Rodrigues, expressing gratitude for the skill training, guidance and support they received from the institute.

Kandela and Parahad attended the training in 2012, the second batch of DBTI. Kandela set up a two-wheeler garage and welding workshop in Uduwa with Rs. 80,000. Bosco Samajik Vikas Sanstha (BSVS) provided partial financial support for the setting up of the garage for a monthly rent of Rs. 3000. Currently, Kandela has employed two youth in his workshop, paying Rs. 200-300 as wage per. He earns an average of Rs. 1000/- per day from his business venture, which supports his family.

Parahad owns a two-wheeler workshop, with an initial setup investment of Rs. 1,50,000, on the Uduva Kanvel route. He pays Rs. 3000 as rent for the workshop and employs three youth. The experienced two are paid Rs. 300 per day and the new worker-cum-trainee is paid a stipend of Rs. 100. On an average Parahad earns Rs. 2000 per day.

Both, Kandela and Parahad profusely thanked DBTI, BSVS and the trainer-instructors for the mentorship and skilling.
