The Catholic Church across the world lays strong emphasis on catechesis. As per the General Directory for Catechesis #105 "Catechesis is nothing other than the process of transmitting the Gospel, as the Christian community has received it, understands it, celebrates it, lives it and communicates it in many ways." This follows from the great commission handed on by Jesus Christ to his disciples: "Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to carry out everything I have commanded you. And know that I am with you always, until the end of time." [Mt. 28:18-20]

The MumbaiSalesians' managed Sacred Heart Parish Yerwada-Pune, after its successful broadcast of the talk on Canon Law and Catholic Marriages by Father Michael Fernandes, in 02 Parts, on 11 and 12 May 2020, ventured forth to organise a series of talks 'Marriage Through the Lens of Catechesis', in English and Marathi, to help married couples, children and families. The talks were delivered by Father Briston Britto, till recently Director of the Salesian Catechetical Centre at Don Bosco Youth centre Koregaon Road-Pune. Father Britto having completed a decade as a priest, equipped with a Masters in Theology, with specialisation in Catechetics from the Kristu Jyoti College [KJC] Bengaluru and having served as the Diocese of Poona Catechetical Director presented marriage from the catechetical perspective.

Father Britto preferred to term these talks as 'FamCat', after the example of the 'YouCat' and the 'DoCat'. He dealt with Marriage-a Vocation, Marriage-a Sacrament, and Marriage-a Covenant. The talks in Marathi and English [5-10 minutes each] were broadcast via the Sacred Heart Parish YouTube Channel on 18, 19, 20 and 22 May, notching up 1,039 [581 + 458] cumulative views.
