In keeping with this year’s theme for International Women’s Day, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” Don Bosco Development Services organized a grand Women’s Day celebration at the DBA Nerul campus. This event was held in conjunction with the Graduation Day for students who successfully completed various skill development courses conducted by the development services team, both in-house and in the migrant communities. The celebration was a tribute to the determination and hard work of these women, reinforcing the importance of education and self-sufficiency in achieving gender equality.

A total of 76 students received their certificates during the graduation ceremony, marking a significant milestone in their journey toward professional and personal growth. Inaugurated with the blessings of Rev Fr Savio Silveria – Provincial, Mumbai province, the first batch of 19 students from the Advanced Computer Education program (DB ACE) graduated with flying colours. Nine students from the beautician’s course, 6 students from the Nail Art course, and 11 participants from the in-house tailoring course also received their certificates. Additionally, 45 students from the migrant communities, such as Navnath Nagar - Panvel, Panchasheel Nagar - CBD Belapur, Maharashtra Nagar - Mankhurd, Vasi Naka – Chembur etc received certificates for successfully completing courses in tailoring and beauty care. These vocational training programs aim to equip women with practical skills, opening doors to employment opportunities and financial independence.

The event was graced by the presence of chief guest, Ms Nazia Momin from The Rotary Club of Smart City Navi Mumbai. She encouraged the women keep on striving to better themselves not just for their families but for themselves too. Other notable attendees included Mr Harun Sheikh and a representative from Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL). Their support and encouragement served as an inspiration for the graduates and attendees, reaffirming the significance of skill development in fostering women's empowerment.

The program commenced with a solemn prayer and the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolizing enlightenment and knowledge. Fr Barnabe D’Souza – Rector of Nerul Don Bosco delivered a poignant address, emphasizing the importance of women’s independence and empowerment. He highlighted how skilling a woman not only provides her with an additional source of income but also instills confidence and a sense of identity. He urged the women to develop a habit of saving, ensuring financial stability, and encouraged them to dedicate time to personal interests and hobbies, promoting a well-balanced life.

The celebration continued with a vibrant showcase of cultural performances. Women from various groups participated in dance performances, including a spirited rendition of "Naari Shakti" by the women from Panvel, which highlighted the strength and resilience of women. The event concluded with a group photograph, capturing the joyous moment, followed by refreshments for all attendees.

The Women’s Day celebration and Graduation Day served as a reminder of the power of education and skill development in transforming lives. It reinforced the commitment of Don Bosco Development Services to empowering women and girls, ensuring their rights, equality, and self-sufficiency in society.
