BIS #7530 Payas Kendra Oratory Organizes Science Experiment Presentation
by Martin Fernandes for BIS Mumbai
On March 8, 2025, the Prayas Kendra Oratory organized a groundbreaking Science Experiment Presentation that left the parishioners both inspired and bewildered. Under the able leadership of Fr Diego, in charge of the oratory, and with the unwavering support of our dedicated teachers— Mrs Juliet, Mrs Sophilia, Mrs Natal, Mr Joshua, and Mr Martin—the event showcased the innovative spirit of children as part of their curriculum. A total of 15 unique projects were displayed, each reflecting the ingenuity and scientific curiosity nurtured within the Oratory.
The exhibition was structured as an interactive session, with the children explaining each experiment in detail and demonstrating their practical real-life applications. Parishioners actively engaged in the session, asking insightful questions and enthusiastically discussing the experiments. Among the standout projects were the Self-Charging Bluetooth System, a Homemade Air Cooler, and a Do Not Drive Without Helmet Detector. These projects not only underscored the children’s grasp of scientific concepts but also highlighted how classroom theories can be translated into innovative solutions for everyday challenges.
It is significant to note that many of these children come from poor backgrounds and nearby slums attending Hindi Medium schools. Despite facing challenging circumstances, they have blossomed into bright talents with multiple hidden abilities, including singing and performing arts.
Fr Diego and the dedicated teachers took tireless efforts in organizing this event, which successfully bridged the gap between academic learning and community engagement. The Science Experiment Presentation not only demonstrated academic excellence but also celebrated the hidden talents of these remarkable children. Fr Diego, in his speech, told the parishioners that Don Bosco takes the Rough Diamond of the society, polishes them, and gives them back to the society. This event has set a high standard for future educational initiatives within the parish, instilling hope and a renewed commitment to transforming lives through education and creativity.
