by BISMumbai Correspondent
MumbaiSalesians’ managed Bosco Boys’ Home at Borivali, Mumbai started as a shelter home for vulnerable boys from the streets, sheltering orphans and with the passage of time accommodated boys from difficult backgrounds and those in conflict with law situations. Registered under the CWC as a home for children in need of care and protection, a Technical Institute with 05 trades - Electrical, AC and Refrigeration, 2 Wheeler & 4 Wheeler Automobile and Hotel Management, with about 90 young people from vulnerable backgrounds.
Throughout the year, varied activities are organised round-the-clock to ensure that the boys and young people learn life-coping skills through activity-based learning. This year on the World Environment Day, as young people across the world and others commemorated Biodiversity, BBH also celebrated WED 2020 with various ‘green initiatives’. Under the theme ‘Sync With Nature’, a fruit garden was created by the boys and Salesians on campus. Later during the day, an ‘art competition’ on the theme ‘Care 4 Creation’, brought out the boys’ creativity to the fore. In the evening, durign the traditional ‘good night’ talk, Cleric Nitesh Damor [Practical Trainee/Regent] presented the curent ecological crisis-situation and proposed certain ‘green changes’ that Bosco Boys could implement for a better, greener, cleaner tomorrow.
The entire day was dedicated to awareness, and action with the various activities. Led by Father Corlis Gonsalves-Director BBH, together with the other Salesians – Father Sunil Pinto, Cleric Nitesh Damor, and with Kieth D’Souza, 05 June 2020 was a day dedicated to fostering love and concern for nature.
Even as the Don Bosco Green Alliance [an international collective of young people from the Salesian Family institutions, who contribute to global environmental action, thought and policy] launched a massive ‘Rethink, Reconnect, Renew Campaign’ on WED 2020, Bosco Boys’ Home clearly is in ‘Sync With Nature’ and on the Green Road.
