BIS #7335 Bake a Cake Workshop at The Stellar DBA

By Natasha Nair for BIS Mumbai

On September 28, The Stellar Don Bosco Academy hosted an enriching Parent and Child Bake a Cake workshop from 2 to 4 pm. The event, designed to bring families together through the joy of baking, was an afternoon filled with laughter, learning, and cake-making. Parents and children alike bonded over the shared experience of creating something sweet, guided by the talented baker, Mrs Hema Karthika.

The session kicked off with Mr Emmanuel Das introducing the participants to the expert. Mrs Karthika then introduced the participants to the essentials of cake baking. Her calm demeanour and in-depth knowledge of the craft immediately drew in the families. She explained the importance of carefully measuring ingredients—such as flour, sugar, eggs, and butter—and discussed the role of each component in the baking process. The group watched intently as she demonstrated how to combine these ingredients, emphasizing precision and patience, both essential to baking success.

The scent of cake batter filled the room as it went into the oven, heightening anticipation. While the cake was baked, Mrs Karthika explained more advanced techniques, such as slicing the cake into layers, adding sugar syrup, adding fillings, and icing for a flawless finish. She provided insider tips on how to get the perfect icing texture, how long to chill the cake, and even how to avoid common baking mistakes.

As the families waited for the cake to cool and set while Mrs Karthika opened the floor to questions, creating an interactive atmosphere where children and parents alike could ask about baking times, decorating tips, and ingredient substitutions. Her enthusiasm for teaching and her approachable nature made the session engaging for participants of all ages.

Once the cake was ready, Mrs Karthika unveiled her masterpiece by adding the final decorative touches, inspiring the children with her artistic flair. The workshop ended on a high note when the cake was shared among all the participants. Although the families didn’t bake the cake themselves, they left the session with a deep appreciation for the process and newly learned skills they could try at home.

The event was not just about learning to bake—it was about families coming together to enjoy quality time, fostering creativity, and creating memories they would cherish. The Stellar Don Bosco Academy successfully hosted a heart-warming and educational experience that celebrated both the art of baking and the joy of family connection.
