By Natasha Nair for BIS Mumbai

On 5 October, the Stellar DB Academy embarked on an exciting new venture with the inauguration of its archery classes, aiming to provide young learners with a unique opportunity to develop both physical skills and mental discipline. The opening session, attended by around 20 eager students, marked the start of what promises to be a fulfilling and challenging journey in the world of archery.

The event kicked off with a welcoming address by Mr Rohan More, one of the trainers and a key figure in bringing the program to life. In addition to training the students, Rohan is also the head of the Robinhood Academy in Nerul, known for promoting the sport in the region. Mr More introduced Fr Shekar Mariadas and Fr Barnabe Dsouza, both of whom played pivotal roles in establishing the course at Stellar DB Academy. He also took a moment to introduce the other trainers, Pranav and Rajnandini, both of whom bring significant expertise to the table.

Fr Barnabe, sharing his inspiration, recounted his recent trip to Rajasthan, where he observed many young archers in training. Struck by the potential of this sport, he returned with a vision to bring it to Stellar DB Academy. His collaboration with Mr More, brought this dream to fruition. Mr More expressed his gratitude, recognizing the opportunity and the excellent facilities provided, and also thanked Mrs Angel Golda– Administrative Head and Coordinator at the academy, for trusting them with this initiative.

Speaking at the event, Fr Barnabe emphasized the importance of the sport not just as a physical pursuit but as a way to build character, focus, and perseverance. He also encouraged the students, saying, “With the right dedication and guidance, I am confident that we will one day see some of you competing at the national level, and perhaps even representing India in the Olympics.” His words resonated with the young archers, who listened intently to the vision being shared with them.

Following a blessing from Fr Barnabe, the class began in full swing. The young archers, under the expert guidance of Rohan, Pranav, and Rajnandini, took their first steps in mastering the bow and arrow. The session focused on the basics of stance, grip, and aiming, setting the foundation for the weeks to come. The students’ enthusiasm was evident as they aimed at their targets, eager to improve with every shot.

As the first day of archery at Stellar DB Academy came to a close, there was a sense of excitement for what lies ahead. The young participants left the field with a new set of skills and a fresh ambition to improve. With expert trainers leading the way, the future of archery at Stellar DB Academy looks bright, and the Academy is well on its way to producing future champions in this timeless sport.
