Kawant, July 4, 2025 – Don Bosco Schools, Kawant (Gujarati and English Medium), conducted their annual Children’s Parliament elections and a Leadership Training Programme, instilling democratic values and leadership skills among students.
The Children’s Parliament elections were held on June 30, 2025, using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), offering students a practical experience of India’s democratic electoral process. The two-day campaign prior to the elections gave candidates the opportunity to present their vision and connect with fellow students.
On election day, Fr Mayank Parmar, Manager of both the Gujarati and English Medium schools, addressed the students and spoke on the importance of voting, civic responsibility, and India’s electoral system.
Following the elections, a Leadership Training Programme was held on July 4, 2025 for the newly elected student leaders for the academic year 2025–2026. The session was facilitated by Mr Hasmukh Christian, Programme Officer of DISHA Don Bosco, Kawant. A total of 50 elected student leaders (25 girls and 25 boys) from both mediums participated enthusiastically.
Fr Ajay Shelke, SDB, Principal of Don Bosco Gujarati Medium School, introduced the resource person and encouraged the student leaders to participate actively in the session.
Using a PowerPoint presentation, Mr Christian introduced the students to various definitions of leadership inspired by renowned figures. He explained different leadership styles, essential qualities, and the core values needed to become effective and compassionate leaders. Interactive activities enabled students to internalise leadership principles and develop key life skills in an engaging and enjoyable manner.
The session contextualised leadership within the school setting, highlighting the roles, responsibilities, and rights of student leaders. The programme concluded with each group preparing an action plan for the academic year focused on positive school engagement and student empowerment.
Students responded positively to the training. “This training was a real eye-opener. I understand the responsibilities of leadership and now feel confident in using my skills to help improve our school,” said Kusum Rathwa. “The activities conducted by the trainer kept me fully engaged. I learnt so much in just one day!” she added. “We are now equipped with practical leadership skills that will help us serve our school more effectively,” said Devang Rathwa, School Captain (English Medium).
The training session marked a significant step in fostering responsible and value-based leadership among the students of Don Bosco Schools, Kawant.
