BIS #7313 Exploring Educational Pathways

by Merlin Torres for BIS Mumbai

To assist students into planning their career ahead, Don Bosco International School (DBIS) hosted a 'Career Fair' for students across various schools of Mumbai on September 14, 2024. The event featured 120 universities from around the world, offering a unique opportunity for students to engage directly with university representatives. Prominent universities included Ashoka University and Manipal University from India; the Universities of Leeds, Nottingham, Cardiff, and Birmingham from the UK; and the State Universities of Arizona and Colorado from the United States.

Career guidance plays a crucial role in helping students navigate their educational and professional journeys. DBIS has dedicated career counselors who work closely with students to identify their strengths, interests, and aspirations. Through personalized counselling sessions, workshops, and seminars, students gain a deeper understanding of various career options and the pathways to achieve their goals. This comprehensive approach ensures that students are well-prepared to make informed decisions, aligning their academic pursuits with their long-term career objectives. By fostering a supportive environment, DBIS empowers students to confidently embark on their chosen career paths, equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for success.

This event allowed students to ask critical questions about academic programs, campus life, and career pathways while parents explored admissions processes, scholarships, and financial aid opportunities. A student commented, “The university representatives presented a clear picture about the modules the students should expect, the accommodation facilities, the clubs that are offered, safety measures, and a multitude of other factors.” Parents appreciated that the fair introduced students to newer, lesser-known programs both locally and globally, as well as the fee structures, grants, assistantships, and scholarships on offer.

By providing exposure to a diverse array of academic and professional options, these fairs empower students to make informed decisions about their future. In the long run, such clarity contributes significantly to their overall well-being, fostering confidence and reducing the stress associated with post-secondary planning. The fair was a resounding success, with students and parents alike expressing their gratitude for the wealth of information and opportunities presented. University representatives were impressed by the enthusiasm and preparedness of the students, noting that such events are crucial for bridging the gap between secondary education and higher education. The event also highlighted the importance of early career planning and the role of schools in facilitating these opportunities.

Through Aptitude Tests, profile building, and exploration of educational pathways at career fairs, DBIS remains committed to supporting students' academic and emotional development, ensuring they thrive in all aspects of their lives.
