BIS #6806 Parenting Session at DB Nerul

By Ms Grishma Joseph Chettiar for BISMumbai

The health clinic of Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Nerul, conducted nurturing and enriching sessions for the parents of Pre-Primary to Class 2 on the 1 October 2022. The first session was on ‘Positive Parenting’ and was facilitated by Dr Tushar Guha, while the second was on ‘Understanding Video Games’ conducted by Cl. Rohan D’Souza.

Dr Guha, is successful corporate trainer, psychologist, educationist and personality development pioneer in India. In his talk, he educated the attendees on how parenting has evolved over the time and brought out the complexities parents face while raising young children. He emphasised on pertinent facts that parents often overlook, the finer details of raising young children.

Over the course of the session Dr Guha reminded the parents that somewhere in the course of life children have forgotten to dream. He said: “It is only by dreaming we grow in life”. Adding to this he mentioned that it is not childish but relevant to read fairy tales once in a while. They kindle creativity and let imaginations flow.

He also brought to their notice that there is no hard and fast rule to parenting and neither is there a one-time solution to the problems that arise while parenting. He enunciated the fact parents need to learn to communicate, appreciate, and encourage their children. This means letting go of comparing them with others while at the same time inculcating discipline in them.

Br Rohan D'souza, pursuing his BSc at St Xavier’s College conducted the second half of the session and spoke on an in depth insight on understanding video games and its positive and negative effects on children. The main motive of video game developers is to make them for entertainment, business and communication.

Mr Vaibhav Patil, one of the parent attendees, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Don Bosco School, Nerul for organizing the session. He found it extremely fruitful and eye opening as he got to learn and unlearn practices that will only help in developing his child better.
