The New Education Policy emphasizes learning through hands-on experiences rather than rote memorization. Alongside this, environmental conservation has become the need of the hour. Protecting and preserving the environment today is an investment in the future. With this vision, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Savedi organized an educational field visit for the students of Class XII (Commerce and Science streams) to Rahuri Agricultural University. The objective was to help students gain practical knowledge about the environment and its interconnection with technology and future careers.
The visit provided students with in-depth knowledge about medicinal plants, their significance, and their practical uses in day-to-day life. Students also explored various departments of the university, including the Information and Technology Department, Irrigation Department, Bakery Production Unit, Fruit Processing Unit, Entomology Section, Herbal Medicine Division, and Apiculture (Bee-keeping) Unit. Experts from each department interacted with the students, explaining modern agricultural techniques, sustainable practices, and innovative approaches to food production and processing.
This experience was more than just an educational tour; it was an eye-opener for students about the integration of environmental awareness, technological innovations, and entrepreneurial opportunities. The practical exposure enabled students to think beyond the classroom and understand how environmental responsibility can go hand-in-hand with future careers.
One of the highlights of the visit was the guidance given by the professors on how these fields offer immense potential for green careers and startups. From organic farming and fruit processing to herbal medicine and beekeeping, students learned how these areas can lead to self-employment, business ventures, and sustainable development.
The field visit truly embodied a perfect blend of environment, education, technology, and career guidance—a combination essential for today’s learners. Both students and teachers experienced the importance of holistic education that prepares students for life, not just for exams.
This successful initiative was made possible under the guidance of Fr Richard D’Silva, Secretary of the institution, and Fr Ajit Munis, Principal of the Higher Secondary Section. The visit was meticulously planned by Dr S. P. Kotkar and Prof. S. R. Garud, subject teachers of Environmental Studies, with the support of the entire Higher Secondary teaching staff.
Fr Ajit Munis and the entire staff of Higher Secondary Section accompanied the students of Class XII (Commerce and Science streams) which helped to bind together well.
Such educational experiences bridge the gap between knowledge and application, shaping students into responsible citizens and future-ready professionals.
