The DBYN, i.e., Don Bosco Youth Nashik commemorated the birth anniversary of Don Bosco by successfully organizing the Parish Premier League (PPL) on August 17, for the three zones of the Parish. This event was held with the aim of fostering unity, healthy competition and sportsmanship amongst the parishioners.
The PPL began with a brief inaugural ceremony, which included a prayer and words of welcome by Fr Leon Rodrigues SDB, the youth-in-charge. He highlighted the importance of teamwork and discipline, both on and off the field. He appreciated the youth of the parish for bringing the community together through sports.
The Tournament featured exciting matches in both football and throwball categories. Each zone formed their respective teams, displaying remarkable commitment and enthusiasm. In fact, Zone A filled in a second team. This portrayed their zeal to bring home the trophy. The Don Bosco School grounds were filled with energy as supporters from all zones came together to cheer their respective teams. There was a festive and vibrant atmosphere.
In order to ensure fair play, the FMA sisters from the Maria Vihar community came to referee the Throwball matches, while the fathers from the Parish ensured the smooth governance and facilitation of the football matches. The football matches witnessed skillful play, team spirit and thrilling moments, while the throwball matches showcased finesse, coordination, strategy and determination. The highlight of the tournament was that each team was called on to ensure that four members of their team were above the age of 30 and the remaining members could be 15 years and above.
After a series of competitive fixtures, the following results were declared:
Football: Zone A emerged champions while Zone B were declared Runners-up.
Throwball: Zone B claimed the title while Zone C came second.
There was moment of togetherness at the end of the tournament as all players and spectators gathered for a festive meal organized by the Parish Priest, Fr Royal D’Abreo SDB. After the meal the closing ceremony commenced. Trophies and gifts were awarded to the winning teams.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the Youth President, Ms Audria who expressed her gratitude to the fathers, sisters and youth for having organized the tournament well. She also thanked the participants for their whole-hearted support. The day was not just about competition, but about strengthening the bonds of unity, love and togetherness among the parish community, living out the values of joy and optimism.
This tournament was a grand success because it helped the budding youth group of the parish to learnt the values of teamwork and coordination. This tournament also helped build bonds of fellowship and love in and between the three zones of the Don Bosco Nashik Parish.
