"A school without music is like a body without a soul." – Don Bosco
In the true spirit of this quote, Don Bosco Primary School, Matunga, hosted a vibrant and heartwarming Singing Competition for students of Standards I and II on August 25, 2025, in the Fr Joseph Casti Hall. The event served as a platform for our youngest singers to showcase their musical talents and build confidence on stage.
This year, the competition was open to songs in all languages, with participants performing along to minus-tracks. The hall was abuzz with excitement as fellow students came together to cheer for their classmates, creating a joyful and supportive environment.
The eliminations, held earlier on August 11, 2025, saw enthusiastic participation, from which ten finalists from each grade were selected. The final performances featured a delightful mix of melodies—each met with rounds of applause, encouragement, and admiration from the audience.
Our esteemed panel of judges included Mr Ransom Fernandes, Mr Nigel Fernandes, and Ms Abigail Tixeira, who not only judged the event but also offered constructive feedback to help the young singers grow in confidence and skill. In a delightful conclusion to the event, the judges themselves gave a performance, adding to the celebratory mood of the morning.
The highlight of the event was the announcement of winners, followed by the distribution of certificates by our Head Teacher, who commended the efforts of every participant. The event was a true celebration of music, community, and the spirit of Don Bosco.
Here’s what our young participants had to say:
Master Noah Piedade (Std. I C): “I felt good to sing on the stage for the first time, and I won the first place!”
Master Lucas D’Souza (Std. II C): “I am feeling proud and very happy. I was singing in my mother tongue. I learnt the song from my cousin and have been singing it since I was four years old.”
The morning ended on a melodious note, leaving everyone with smiling faces and a shared love for music. The event wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of our Head Teacher, the dedicated teachers, and the hard work of our talented students.
Indeed, it was a day to remember – a celebration of music, joy, and youthful talent!
