Don Bosco School and Junior College, Nashik, celebrated the birth anniversary of the great Maratha warrior king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, with pride and patriotic fervour on February 18, 2026. The celebration aimed to honour the remarkable legacy of the founder of the Maratha Empire and to inspire students with his ideals of courage, leadership, justice, and love for the motherland.
The programme began with a solemn prayer seeking blessings for wisdom and strength. The atmosphere was filled with reverence as the Principal, Fr Rixson, offered floral tributes to the statue of Shivaji Maharaj as a mark of deep respect and gratitude. Teachers and students observed a moment of silence, remembering the invaluable contribution of the great leader to Indian history. The campus echoed with patriotic spirit as the gathering reflected on his heroic life and the establishment of Swarajya through determination and strategic brilliance.
A special assembly was conducted to commemorate the occasion. Students delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the life and achievements of Shivaji Maharaj. The speaker emphasized his bravery, visionary leadership, and commitment to justice. It was noted that Shivaji Maharaj respected all religions, treated his subjects fairly, strengthened administration, and built a strong navy. His foresight and organisational skills were presented as valuable lessons for today’s youth.
The cultural programme added colour and enthusiasm to the celebration. Students performed a spirited powada narrating the heroic deeds of Shivaji Maharaj, filling the atmosphere with pride. A traditional dance performance further showcased the rich cultural heritage of Maharashtra and beautifully reflected the values of unity, self-respect, and patriotism.
In his address, Fr Rixson encouraged students to draw inspiration from the life and teachings of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He particularly highlighted Shivaji Maharaj’s strong stand on women empowerment, stating that the great king ensured the safety, dignity, and honour of women in his kingdom and strictly punished injustice. He reminded students that true leadership lies in courage, equality, and moral responsibility, urging them to respect women and stand firmly for justice.
The celebration concluded on a patriotic note, leaving everyone inspired and proud of India’s glorious heritage.
