Don Bosco High School, Vadodara, recently hosted its 45th Annual Sports Day on Wednesday, turning the field into a vibrant spectacle of energy, enthusiasm, and competitive spirit. The day celebrated not only victory but, equally, the value of participation and teamwork.
The ceremony commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest, the esteemed rector, Fr Brian Moras. He was accompanied by Principal Madam Leena Varghese, administrator Fr Thomas, and Fr Chris. Four school Rangers—Deyanxi Chauhan, Pal Patel, Anushka Sharma, and Ann Mary—escorted the dignitaries. Following the words of welcome, Principal Madam Leena Varghese felicitated Fr Moras by presenting a sapling, and Fr Chris honoured a guest by presenting a shawl.
Fr Brian Moras was requested to declare the meet open, which he did. This was followed by the Oath Taking Ceremony, where Head Boy Samuel Dsouza led the students in the sportsman's oath. Deputy Head Boy Kartik Singh then said the sportsman's prayer. The school choir led the students in the School Anthem.
A major highlight was the Lighting of the Torch, which was carried by seventeen students who have represented the city, district, and even state teams in their respective events. This inspiring moment was followed by the Flag Ceremony, setting the stage for the competition.
The competitive phase of the day featured several high-stakes events. Excitement peaked during the thrilling finals for the 100m and 200m sprints, the 4 x 100m relays, and the final Tug of War event. Adding a memorable and amusing twist, Fr Rector organized a tough but spirited Tug of War contest between the male staff and the female staff, with the male staff ultimately securing the victory.
The day concluded with the Prize Distribution ceremony, where recognition was given to the Most Valuable Players from each category who contributed significantly to their school houses and won multiple medals in their track and field events. This was followed by the much-anticipated Chief Guest Speech , and the Vote of Thanks proposed by the Head Girl. The successful 45th Annual Sports Day concluded with all students standing for the National Anthem.
