The Christmas Dhamaka 2025 organised by Shelter Don Bosco was a vibrant and meaningful celebration organised for homeless people in street situations, with a special focus on street-youth. Nearly 850 participants from across the city of Mumbai came together to celebrate Christmas in an atmosphere of joy, dignity, and inclusion. For many, the mela offered not just entertainment, but a rare experience of being welcomed, valued, and celebrated.
The day began with registrations and breakfast, ensuring that every participant started the day with nourishment and warmth. As the mela unfolded, game stalls, amusement rides, and interactive activities created an atmosphere of excitement and childlike wonder. Joy filled the area as the youth engaged in the events freely, many experiencing such activities for the first time.
Beyond entertainment, the mela reflected a strong commitment to holistic care. NGO stalls, medical camps, and support services were set up to respond to the immediate needs of people living on the streets. These services highlighted the importance of care, protection, and access to support systems for vulnerable populations, reinforcing the message that every life matters.
The cultural programme was a powerful platform for expression and inspiration. Street youth, Shelter youth and staff, past pupils, and professional artists shared the stage through rap performances, dance acts, beatboxing, magic shows, clowning performances and street theatre. These performances were more than entertainment—they were stories of resilience, talent, and hope. The participation of former street-connected youth served as a strong reminder that with care and opportunity, transformation is possible.
The inauguration ceremony, marked by prayer, a prayer dance, and the lighting of the lamp brought everyone together in reflection and gratitude, grounding the celebration in the true spirit of Christmas—love, compassion, and solidarity with the poor. The presence of staff, guests, and community members strengthened the sense of belonging and collective celebration.
The surprise entry of Santa, performed by Shelter staff brought immense joy and laughter among the participants. The evening concluded with dinner, a jam session, and th eChristmas gift distribution, ensuring that no one left empty-handed.
The Christmas Dhamaka 2025 was more than an event—it was a powerful expression of dignity, hope, and human connection. For 850 individuals living in street situations, it became a reminder that they are seen, valued, and not alone.
