“On the field, success belongs to those who give their best.”
The Annual Sports Day of Don Bosco Primary School, Yerwada, was celebrated with great enthusiasm on December 5, 2025, on the school playground. The pleasant morning created the perfect atmosphere as students and staff gathered for one of the most eagerly awaited events of the academic year.
The programme commenced with a Guard of Honour to welcome the Chief Guest, Fr Cleophas Braganza, Incharge of Chakan Salesian Community. He was accompanied by Fr Glen Fernandes, the Principal, Fr Michael Fernandes, the Parish Priest, and the heads of various sections, whose presence added dignity and grace to the celebration.
The event began with the School Prayer followed by the School Anthem. As a gesture of appreciation, Fr Glen presented a small token of love to the Chief Guest on behalf of the school.
A special highlight of the morning was the much-awaited parade by the young students of the Primary Section. With cheerful smiles, perfect coordination and disciplined marching, the Tiny Tots won the hearts of all present. Dressed in their vibrant House colours, they marched with enthusiasm, symbolising unity, teamwork and hope for a bright future.
The Chief Guest then ceremoniously hoisted the Sports Flag officially marking the opening of the Sports Day.
This was followed by the Lighting of the Torch by four student representatives, a symbolic gesture of their commitment to discipline and true sportsmanship. Miss Riya Edke led the Sportspersons’ Oath, after which Master Pranesh Patil administered the Sports persons' prayer.
The day progressed with dynamic physical displays. Students of Std I and II performed a well-coordinated Mass Drill showcasing strength, flexibility and rhythm. Students of Std. III and IV added vibrancy with a lively Zumba performance, filling the ground with energy and colour.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest reminded the students that sports teaches valuable life lessons one may win or lose, but true success lies in giving one’s best and never giving up.
Soon after, the athletic events began. Students enthusiastically participated in a variety of races such as Passing Through the Ring, Balancing the Ball, Book Balancing, Getting Ready to School, Flat Races, Relay Races, and Tug-o-War. The joy and excitement on their faces made the atmosphere truly electric.
The Prize Distribution Ceremony followed, where winners were honoured with certificates and medals. The Blue House proudly lifted the Overall Championship Trophy for the year.
The programme concluded with the extinguishing of the Sports flame by the torch bearers and the Chief Guest, followed by the National Anthem. Mrs Sangeeta Patil, Head Teacher, proposed the Vote of thanks.
Students also shared their joyful experiences.
A Std III student expressed, “Sports Day is my favourite day because we learn to try hard even if we don’t win.”
Std IV student added, “The races were exciting. I want to practice more and win next year.”
The day ended on a memorable and cheerful note, leaving students inspired and motivated.
