On September 27, 2025 – Wading Through Life’s – Funtoosh (WTL), in collaboration with Don Bosco International School, Matunga successfully hosted the inspiring “Funtoosh Talent Ki Toli” event and Support Group Meeting for children with special needs and their families. The celebration, held at Don Bosco International School Matunga, brought together the children and their parents for an evening brimming with joy, talent, and togetherness.
A Mission of Togetherness
What began as a vital Support Group at Don Bosco Nerul has now expanded its mission. WTL is dedicated to extending its support system, aiming to build a wider network that includes many more parents and special needs children. The group actively supports families by organizing regular meetings, structured playdates, and celebratory events, opening new avenues for children to meet, socialize, and build friendships.
The event was the brainchild of Ms Wenonah Castellino, Founder-Director of WTL, who conceptualized and expertly emceed the program. She was ably supported by Coordinator Ms Geeta Kadav and a team of energetic volunteers from the Don Bosco Youth Services. Also in attendance was Fr Ajoy Fernandes, Director of Don Bosco International School, Matunga, and Fr Leon Cruz, Director for Youth Services at DB Matunga.
A Session of Support and Self-Expression
The evening commenced with an introduction by Ms Castellino, followed by a deeply soulful prayer song, ‘Waymaker,’ which saw everyone swaying to the music.
A highlight was an interactive Music Therapy Session, enjoyed by all. This was followed by a crucial session for parents conducted by school counsellor Ms Upasana Soni. She presented on the critical topic: ‘How to handle Meltdown in special children.’ Recognizing the panic and difficulty parents often face during these situations, especially in public, Ms Soni provided practical and effective strategies for managing a child in distress.
The atmosphere truly exploded with energy during the Talent Session. The children shone, performing with great enthusiasm—singing, dancing, and even playing the tabla. The entire audience joined in, cheering for the young stars. Ms Castellino and her son shared a touching moment, singing ‘You are my sunshine’ together. The session featured several action songs performed with musical instruments, which are invaluable for engaging children’s senses, reinforcing word meaning through repetition, and developing essential motor skills through clapping and actions.
Looking to the Future
The parents universally expressed their sincere appreciation for WTL’s thoughtful efforts and meticulous organization. They are enthusiastically looking forward to upcoming programs, including adaptive functional sports, wellness and dance sessions, and further Music Therapy Sessions designed for both the children and their parents.
The "Funtoosh Talent Ki Toli" is a powerful reminder of the importance of community and the boundless joy found in celebrating every child's unique talent. Every Funtoosh (child) is a shining star for us.
