St Dominic Savio High School, Andheri, celebrated its Annual Secondary Sports Festival on November 19, 2025, carrying forward its tradition of nurturing young athletes with energy, discipline and Salesian spirit. The festivities were preceded by thrilling selection heats where students competed in track events, long jump and shot put. Their strength, teamwork and determination set a vibrant tone for the grand celebration themed “Racing with Hope, Running Towards Peace.”
The ceremony opened with the unfurling of the school flag by Chief Guest, Olympian Mr Anand Lewis Menezes, followed by a disciplined and well-coordinated March Past by the four houses—Rua, Zatti, Magone and Rinaldi. The atmosphere lifted as the Sports Flame, symbolising passion and perseverance, was carried by exceptional athletes representing athletics, basketball, cricket, football and hockey.
A proud moment followed as Mast. Aditey Gaikwad was honoured for his remarkable achievement in Air Pistol Shooting, earning district distinction and State-level selection. Before the formal addresses, students enthralled the audience with a dynamic Wu-Shu martial arts display and impressive Human Pyramids, showcasing balance, precision and teamwork.
The school was privileged to host Mr Menezes, a distinguished sprinter who equalled Milkha Singh’s iconic record, won more than 100 national medals and served on the Athletics Federation’s selection panel. His address urged students to persevere, pray sincerely and work hard with commitment. Principal Ms Valerie Mascarenhas concluded the formal segment by expressing heartfelt gratitude to God for His abundant blessings, the Chief Guest for his captivating speech, followed by instructions for the day.
The excitement rose once more as the houses competed in football, basketball and cricket, while lighter events like Robbing the Eggs and the Potato Race brought laughter, strategy and pure school-day joy. The friendly rivalry added colour to the celebration, deepening the spirit of unity and healthy competition.
The Closing Ceremony resounded with cheers during the tug of war and final track events, followed by a fun-filled teachers’ game – Marble and Spoon. Prizes were awarded with Rua House emerging as the overall champions.
Fr Rector ended the day with three guiding lessons: treasure every opportunity, learn a new sport and practice consistently. The festival concluded with the lowering of the flag and the National Anthem, marking a dignified close rooted in hope, peace and unity.
