AHMEDNAGAR, FEBRUARY 20-22, 2026: In a powerful display of Salesian spirit, 50 Salesian Cooperators embarked on a two-day outreach mission to Ahmednagar. Led by their delegate, Fr Diego Nunes, the group visited local parishes, rural missions, and social centers to witness the transformative work being carried out in the region.
The mission began on the night of February 20th from Our Lady of Dolours Church, Wadala, centering at Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK). Cooperators brought generous contributions of food grains, clothing, stationery, and financial aid to bolster local initiatives. Upon arrival, Fr George, Rector of BGVK, and his staff welcomed the participants with traditional Tilak, Topi, and Uparna.
During a morning orientation, Fr Diego Nunes highlighted the global 150th Anniversary of the Salesian Cooperators. He urged units to internalize the year’s Strenna through concrete action, mandating special social and pastoral activities with progress reports due by the end of April 2026.
The journey included visits to the historic St John’s Church in Bhingar—boasting a 156-year legacy—and St Anne’s Church, Ahilyanagar. In the rural missions of Ratadgaon and Kandka, the delegation observed the Salesians' profound socioeconomic impact. Ratadgaon, home to four generations of Catholic families, showcased BGVK’s support through women’s centers, balwadis and vital infrastructure for water, poultry, and animal husbandry.
In Kandka, Cooperators engaged with 52 families and 60 students to discuss challenges regarding health and education. A moving moment occurred when a villager shared that "praying keeps them happy," reflecting a deep-rooted faith. When asked about career goals, students expressed aspirations to become educators, law enforcement officers, and mechanics. The group distributed stationery and food supplies to support these young dreamers. The mission also focused on social welfare at Pumpkin House, an orphanage caring for 62 children. This visit highlighted the Salesian charism of providing a "home that welcomes."
The outreach concluded on February 22 with a solemn Mass at the newly constructed Don Bosco Church in Savedi. Following a farewell lunch hosted by Fr Richard D’Silva, the group returned to Mumbai. Fr Nunes expressed profound gratitude for the Cooperators’ generosity and resilience—especially those of advanced age—while participants praised the well-coordinated program that renewed their commitment to the mission of Don Bosco.
