On September 7, 2025, the Salesian Cooperators of the Mumbai province held their annual walking pilgrimage and recollection at Auxilium Convent in Pali Hill, Bandra. Approximately 60 Cooperators from various units participated in the event.
The gathering began with a welcome from Daphne, the secretary of the Bandra unit. Fr Diego Nunes, the Salesian Family delegate, formally welcomed everyone and introduced the speaker for the recollection, Fr Joaquim Fernandes SDB, who serves as the vice principal of Don Bosco High School and Junior College in Naigaon East. Following his introduction, Fr Fernandes delivered a talk on the character of St Peter. He detailed the challenges St Peter faced on his journey to becoming a witness for Christ's kingdom.
Fr Fernandes's talk was highly engaging as he delved into the historical context of Jesus's transfiguration, an event where Jesus revealed His divine glory to Peter, James, and John. He then moved to the mission of entrusting Peter with the keys of heaven, a powerful symbol of authority with a specific reference to Solomon's temple. This discussion also included a captivating explanation of the word "Rock" in relation to Peter's new role, highlighting the foundational significance of his faith and leadership. Through these points, Fr Fernandes painted a picture of Peter's challenging yet transformative journey from a simple fisherman to a primary Apostle, who eventually embraced martyrdom. It was a captivating explanation of the word "Rock" in relation to Peter's role.
Attendees participated in Bible puzzles and group discussions throughout the recollection. The Cooperators were amazed to learn that Peter's name is mentioned 191 times in the Bible.
After lunch, the Cooperators embarked on a profound walking pilgrimage to Mount Mary's Basilica. As they made their way through the streets of Bandra, they publicly expressed their faith by reciting the rosary, creating a visible and powerful witness for those around them.
Joaquim Dmello, from Kurla said, “I enjoyed the group activity where the team spirit was evident.” Shonan Padte, the young Aspirant from Wadala said “ Some of us youngsters made use of our digital devices to navigate facts and scriptures which made me realize that even our gadgets can be used to learn and evangelize the Word of God.”
