Don Bosco Chinchwad organized a Workshop on Wellness in Life for staff and students, with Fr Xavier Devdas as the resource person. The session aimed at raising awareness about healthy living and the dangers of substance abuse among youth.
Fr Anton D’Souza, Director of the institute, warmly welcomed and introduced Fr Xavier Devdas, highlighting his nearly four decades of selfless service in ministry. He underlined Fr Devdas’ commitment to living with and guiding youth at risk, offering compassionate accompaniment to hundreds over the years.
Addressing the students in groups according to their trades, Fr Devdas emphasized life as God’s most precious gift. He reminded them that parents are the second greatest gift, who sacrifice immensely to secure a better future for their children. He urged the students to respect both life and parents, stressing that life is fragile and comes with no guarantees.
In his talk, Fr Devdas warned against the serious dangers of addiction. He pointed out the rise in alcohol, gutkha, cigarette, and drug consumption in India, noting the harmful effects of substances such as charas and ganja on the body and brain. He also cautioned against unhealthy indulgence in mobile gaming and pornography, which can lead to destructive habits and isolation from family, friends, and society. Through his powerful message, he called upon the youth to live life to its fullest—joyfully and meaningfully, rather than for fleeting pleasures.
The workshop was well-received by the students, who found it insightful and motivating. Fr Devdas stressed that such sessions should not be a one-time event, but part of continuous awareness and guidance efforts.
Don Bosco Chinchwad has committed to organizing more counseling and wellness programs throughout the academic year, ensuring that students are guided towards a bright and responsible future.
