On January 24 and 25, 2026, the community of Resurrection Church, Virar East, was graced by the inspiring pastoral visit of Fr Ashley Miranda, the Salesian Provincial of the Mumbai Province. Fr Miranda’s presence and his stirring homily served as a timely reminder of the transformative power of kindness and faith.
Drawing from the liturgical readings, Fr Miranda began his sermon by reflecting on the powerful imagery of light. "The people living in darkness have seen a great light," he quoted, emphasizing that in our modern context, "darkness" often manifests as despair, loneliness, and the overwhelming pressures of daily life. By dying on the cross, Jesus demonstrated the depth of His commitment to humanity.
A central theme of the Provincial’s message was the urgent need for gentleness in a harsh world. He noted that many people today are suffering and have lost hope. In response, we are called to be Apostles of Jesus. To illustrate this, he pointed to the life of Don Bosco. Fr Miranda challenged the parishioners to become "channels of God’s love" within their own families and the wider Virar community. This mission, he suggested, is accomplished through simple yet profound gestures: a genuine smile, a kind word, and a willingness to help others carry their burdens.
Turning to the role of the Blessed Mother, Fr Miranda spoke movingly about Mother Mary as the ultimate symbol of resilience and maternal care. He encouraged the faithful to look to her when life feels unbearable. "She is our Mother; she hears our prayers," he assured the congregation.
Fr Miranda concluded his sermon with a powerful call to action. He emphasized that the light of Jesus must shine through us into the hearts of others. This is achieved not through grand theological debates, but through the daily practice of forgiveness and empathy.
In a momentous gathering at Resurrection Church, the Salesian Cooperators Team had the privilege of welcoming Fr Miranda, for the first time. This special occasion was marked by warmth, gratitude, and a celebration of community spirit. The event commenced with a beautiful felicitation led by The Choir group leader in Nelson Matthew, who presented Fr Miranda with a bouquet of flowers. His heartfelt words conveyed the excitement of having Fr Miranda among us, emphasizing the significance of this visit for the Salesian community.
Following this touching welcome, Mr Dian D'Souza, the Cordinator of the Salesian Cooperators, delivered a gratitude speech that resonated with all present. He expressed deep appreciation for Fr Miranda's leadership and dedication, highlighting the vital role he plays in guiding the Salesian mission and fostering unity within the community. Fr Thomas D'Costa then took the stage to provide a brief introduction to Fr Provincial's religious profession. He shared insights into Fr Miranda's journey, his commitment to the Salesian values, and the profound impact he has had on the lives of many through his ministry.
