The vibrant Feast of Don Bosco was joyfully celebrated at Don Bosco Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Chinchwad on Saturday, January 31, 2026. This annual event united students, dedicated staff members, faculty, and the wider institute community in honoring the legacy of Saint John Bosco, the beloved 19th-century educator and founder of the Salesian Congregation. Known affectionately as the "friend of youth," Don Bosco devoted his life to guiding young people—especially the poor and marginalized—through education, faith, and practical skills, a mission that resonates deeply with the institute's ethos today.
The day's program centered on Don Bosco's inspiring life and visionary educational philosophy, which prioritizes values like discipline, hard work, integrity, and compassionate care for the young. It began with an uplifting morning assembly where participants reflected on his preventive system of education, which emphasizes reason, religion, and loving kindness over punishment. This approach continues to shape Salesian institutions worldwide, fostering holistic growth in body, mind, and spirit.A highlight was the engaging quiz competition on the life of Don Bosco and the Salesian Congregation. Teams of students competed enthusiastically, answering questions about his early struggles in Turin, his dream of the Salesian charism, and the global reach of his work. The event not only tested knowledge but sparked lively discussions, helping participants connect Don Bosco's story to their own journeys in vocational training.Complementing the quiz were creative outlets like drawing and essay-writing competitions, themed around "Don Bosco's Life and Lessons for Today." Young artists sketched vivid scenes of Don Bosco playing with street urchins or establishing his first oratory, while essayists penned heartfelt pieces on how his values inspire modern skill-building. These activities allowed students to express their learnings artistically, blending creativity with spiritual insight.
Fr Anton Dsouza, the esteemed Rector/Director of Don Bosco ITI Chinchwad, delivered a poignant address. "Don Bosco's unwavering commitment to the holistic development of youth, particularly those from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds, remains our guiding light," he said. "We urge our students to pair technical expertise with ethical values, a strong sense of responsibility, and selfless service to society. In an era of rapid change, this blend equips them not just for jobs, but for meaningful lives." Faculty members joined in, interacting closely with students to underscore the vital role of vocational training in nurturing employable, responsible citizens. They emphasized continuous learning, adaptability to industry demands—like emerging fields in automation and green technologies—and professional conduct that reflects Salesian ideals. The celebration culminated in prize distribution for competition winners, amid applause and pride. It closed with the resounding strains of the institute anthem, sung heartily by students and staff, evoking profound unity, belonging, and shared purpose.
Don Bosco ITI Chinchwad steadfastly upholds this educational legacy through cutting-edge skill development initiatives, industry-oriented programs in trades like electrician, mechanic, and welder training, and a nurturing environment that champions both professional competence and personal growth. As the community departs renewed, the feast reaffirms their collective vow to carry Don Bosco's flame forward.
