On October 10, 2025, the Rector’s Conference at Don Bosco School and Junior College at Nashik, conducted by Fr Royal, proved to be a deeply meaningful and motivational session for the teaching staff. The theme of the conference revolved around strengthening the educator’s role through four essential areas of connection: closeness to God, closeness to management, closeness to co-teachers, and closeness to students. Each area was explored through the lens of St John Bosco’s educational philosophy, reinforcing the Salesian identity of the institution.
The conference began with a reflection on closeness to God. Fr. Royal emphasized that teachers, as moral and spiritual guides, must cultivate a deep and personal relationship with God. In the spirit of Don Bosco, who said, “Without confidence in God, all our efforts are in vain,” educators were encouraged to remain rooted in prayer, humility, and spiritual discipline. This divine connection empowers teachers to lead with compassion, patience, and integrity.
Moving forward, closeness to management was highlighted as essential for the smooth functioning of the institution. Fr Royal spoke about the importance of mutual trust, transparent communication, and shared vision between teachers and the school leadership. Don Bosco himself believed in strong leadership rooted in collaboration, famously stating, “The school was not the work of one man alone.” Teachers were urged to work in harmony with the management, contributing proactively to the school’s mission.
The importance of closeness to co-teachers was then addressed. Fr Royal called for a supportive and respectful work culture where staff members uplift and learn from one another. Don Bosco promoted unity and fraternity among his collaborators, saying, “Walk with your companions and you’ll never be alone.” Such collaboration strengthens the school environment and enhances the quality of education delivered.
Finally, closeness to students was deeply emphasized. Drawing from Don Bosco’s Preventive System, Fr Royal reminded teachers to be mentors, not just instructors. Don Bosco believed in winning the hearts of the young through love, kindness, and presence. As he said, “Education is a matter of the heart.” Teachers were encouraged to be approachable, empathetic, and attentive to students’ emotional, academic, and spiritual needs.
The conference concluded with a call to live out these four pillars daily, thereby nurturing a vibrant, faith-filled, and compassionate educational environment in the true Salesian spirit.
