The campus of Don Bosco Snehalaya in Vishwamitri, Vadodara, transformed into a vibrant carnival of hope as the institution celebrated a significant milestone - the 25th Annual Bal Mela (Children’s Day Fair).
Held on November 15, 2025, the Silver Jubilee edition of the event was centered on the inspiring theme, ‘Asha O Ko Mile Sahara, Sapno Ko Mile Udaan’ (Uphold our Hopes, Unfold our Dreams). Staying true to the Salesian mission of serving the young at risk, the event brought together over 1,000 underprivileged children from the city’s streets, slums, and railway stations for a day of joy and dignity.
A Quarter - Century Legacy of Care - Managed by the Jagruti Samaj Seva Mandal Trust, Don Bosco Snehalaya has spent 25 years dedicated to the holistic rehabilitation of orphans and destitute children. Recognizing that children from marginalized backgrounds rarely get to participate in mainstream festivities, the institute has upheld this tradition for a quarter of a century to ensure they are not left behind.
Festivities and Fun - The celebration kicked off at 2:00 PM with an inauguration by Shri Aditya Patel (Chairman, Nagar Primary Education Committee, Vadodara) and Bishop Sebastiao Mascarenhas (Bishop of Vadodara). The dignitaries marked the occasion by cutting the ribbon and releasing balloons, signalling the start of the fun.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Aditya Patel emphasized the precious nature of every child, expressing his hope that social service organizations continue to unlock the latent potential within the youth. The children then rushed to enjoy over 25 game stalls set up across the campus. A special highlight of the afternoon was a high - energy ‘Bokwa Dance’ performance by Ritu Meghwal, which captivated the young audience.
Evening Cultural Programme & Awards - The evening session began at 5:30 p.m., graced by a distinguished line - up of civic authorities, including Shri Anil Dhameliya (Collector & District Magistrate), Shri Vishal Gadhvi (Judge, DLSA), and key officials from the Child Welfare and Social Security departments.
The children of Snehalaya took to the stage in colorful costumes, performing a series of dramas and dances that showcased their talents. The Chief Guest and Guests of Honor presented the ‘Sneha Awards’ to deserving children, recognizing their growth and achievements. Collector Shri Anil Dhameliya praised the institution's consistent service to destitute children.
Gratitude and Community Spirit - The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Fr. Ajay, the In-charge of the children, who expressed gratitude to the donors, government officials, and the dedicated staff.
Special appreciation was noted for the leadership team - Rector Fr Baptist Monteiro and Administrator Br Christopher Nadar - along with the core organizing team (Shri Monty-bhai, Jitu-bhai, Kanti-bhai, and Shelly-ben) for their month - long efforts to ensure the Silver Jubilee was a resounding success.
The day ended at 7 p.m. with the National Anthem and a festive dinner, ensuring every child left with a full stomach and a happy heart.
