The sprawling grounds of Don Bosco High School, Matunga, transformed into a vibrant arena of colour, energy, and youthful enthusiasm as the Primary Section celebrated its Annual Sports Festival on November 29, 2025. Centred around the inspiring theme, ‘Hope in every step, Victory in every heart’, the event was the culmination of weeks of rigorous practice, discipline, and dedication by the students and staff.
The festival began with a warm welcome accorded to the Chief Guest, Rector Fr Godfrey D’Souza, alongside the Principal Fr Flovi D’Souza, Administrator Fr Orville Coutinho, and other distinguished dignitaries. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation as the school flag was hoisted, followed by the singing of the School Anthem, which set a solemn and patriotic tone for the proceedings.
A highlight of the opening ceremony was the symbolic Lighting of the Torch, a tradition representing the undying flame of sportsmanship. This was followed by the Sportsman’s Prayer and the solemn Oath, where young athletes pledged to compete with fairness and integrity. These rituals underscored the day's core message: “Sports teach us to win with humility and lose with dignity—because every victory begins with the courage to try.”
The audience was then treated to a spectacular display of coordination and rhythm. The students presented dynamic drill displays and a high-energy band performance that captivated the onlookers. The synchronization and creativity showcased in these performances were a testament to the students' hard work and the teachers' guidance. Following the displays, Fr Godfrey D’Souza officially declared the sports meet open, delivering an address that encouraged the boys to give their best and enjoy the spirit of the game.
The track and team events saw enthusiastic participation from students of Standards I to IV. The air filled with cheers as students demonstrated agility, speed, and teamwork. Beyond the competition, the events highlighted the joy of participation. Adding to the community spirit, special games organized for parents and teachers drew loud applause and laughter, reinforcing the bond between the home and the school.
The festivity concluded with the Closing Ceremony and Prize Distribution. Winners beamed with pride as they received medals, trophies, and certificates. In his closing address, Principal Fr Flovi D’Souza imparted a crucial lesson, reminding the students that effort is the precursor to achievement and that setbacks are merely stepping stones for growth.
A heartfelt Vote of Thanks was proposed by a student representative, acknowledging the tireless efforts of the management, the teaching and support staff led by Head Teacher, Mrs Griselda Fernandes, and the parents. The day ended with the lowering of the School Flag and the National Anthem, leaving everyone with cherished memories of a day defined by confidence, resilience, and unity.
