Don Bosco, Lonavla, extended a warm and prayerful welcome to four newly ordained Salesian priests—Fr Aegedius Pereira, Fr Christopher Nadar, Fr Jittin Varghese, and Fr Sheldon Dias—on January 20. The occasion was marked by gratitude, fraternity, and thanksgiving as the community gathered to celebrate the gift of priesthood.
The day began at the school campus, where the priests were formally introduced to the students and staff. A brief felicitation and prayer service followed, during which the community invoked God’s blessings upon the new priests and their ministry. The event held special significance for the institution, as Fr Christopher Nadar and Fr Aegedius Pereira had earlier served in Lonavla as practical trainees and teachers, making their return as ordained priests a joyful homecoming.
In the evening, the priests met with the aspirants in two separate sessions for junior and senior boys. The interactions provided an open and engaging space for dialogue, reflection, and inspiration, as the priests shared personal experiences from their vocation journeys.
Fr Jittin Varghese reflected on his family’s faith life and early spiritual influences, recalling how his parents nurtured faith at home. He spoke candidly about the inner struggle he faced when his sister chose religious life and how, over time, prayer and discernment helped him embrace God’s call. He also shared how practical training strengthened his confidence and pastoral approach.
Fr Sheldon Dias spoke with humility about his vocational journey, remarking that God had remained faithful even in moments of personal weakness. He highlighted his missionary experience in Africa, which deepened his understanding of service, sacrifice, and trust in divine providence.
Fr Christopher Nadar shared that his path included moments of doubt and uncertainty, yet he was given opportunities to persevere and grow. Both he and Fr Aegedius Pereira expressed gratitude to the Salesians who accompanied them with patience and encouragement, acknowledging the vital role of formators and mentors in shaping their vocation.
The programme concluded with the celebration of the Eucharist, attended by Salesian Cooperators and friends. A short felicitation programme followed, featuring words of congratulations from the boys and Fr Avil Correa. The celebration included cultural performances and the singing of the Don Bosco hymn, “Let Us Sing of Our Father.” The day ended with a festive community meal.
