Don Bosco Skill Development Institute (DBSDI) in Borivali commemorated the feast of Blessed Philip Rinaldi with a vibrant ‘Salesian Youth Day’ on November 5, blending spiritual inspiration, life skills workshops, and joyful community games. The event, attended by 88 students from the Hotel Management and Technical sectors along with staff, honoured the gentle legacy of Don Bosco’s third successor through a day of learning, reflection, and fellowship.
The morning assembly set a reflective tone as Fr Donald Fernandez, Principal of DBSDI, shared the inspiring story of Blessed Philip Rinaldi. He highlighted Rinaldi’s humble beginnings, his initial hesitation to join the Salesians, and his growth into a compassionate leader. “He teaches us that holiness is often found in quiet faithfulness and gentle guidance,” remarked Fr Fernandez, encouraging students to embrace humility and dedication in their own paths.
Following the assembly, students participated in parallel enrichment sessions tailored to their holistic development. Fr Mario Vaz, SDB, conducted an engaging ‘Life Coping Skills’ workshop for Hotel Management students. Through an inspiring video titled “Power of Dream” and interactive discussions, he invited students to reflect on their aspirations. Ms Monishka spoke about facing daily fears with confidence, while Master Delvin Manji shared his dream of working with international cruise lines. Fr Vaz also facilitated a group activity for identifying personal strengths and retold the classic fable “The Hare and the Tortoise” with a modern twist, emphasising perseverance and self-belief.
Simultaneously, Fr Vishal Lopes conducted a lively "Time Management" workshop for the Technical students. He taught simple methods to organise daily tasks, avoid delays, and set clear priorities for study and work. Fr Lopes also highlighted the strong link between good time habits and a healthy lifestyle—encouraging students to balance work, rest, and recreation. “Time management isn’t just about doing more,” he reminded them, “it’s about living well, staying focused, and making space for what truly matters—including your health and happiness.”
Post-lunch, the campus transformed into a lively fairground with fete games organised under the guidance of Fr Donald Fernandez and Mr Christopher D’Cruz, with support from DBSDI staff and past pupils. Before the games began, the Rector, Fr Roshan Gonsalves, formally inaugurated the Salesian Youth Day. In his address, he connected the celebration to the day’s patron: “Blessed Philip Rinaldi lived so closely with Don Bosco that their spirits were almost identical—only their voices differed. Today, we keep that spirit alive through joy, learning, and community.”
Students enthusiastically took part in various skill-based and team games, enjoying friendly competition and fellowship. Cheers and laughter echoed across the grounds as participants won prizes. The day concluded with snacks and refreshments, leaving students enriched with spiritual insights, practical life skills, and joyful memories—a true reflection of the Salesian spirit of educating the heart, mind, and hands.
